Has anyone else noticed this? I've got 2-3 tabs open, one of them gmail, and if memory serves, it looks like FF4 is using at least an extra 100Mb more memory up to almost 400Mb of ram. Sad if true.

I have found that almost every browser is a memory hog if left open for too long (days, weeks) They never see to release any.

Yes I have noticed this too I leave my comp on nearly all the time. And it's leaking I'm almost 100% sure of it as i have nearly 10-15 tabs open all the time. mostly for MSDN and company Wiki articles, plus bug tracking. James Binary Warrior.

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP3 with FF 4 and I have 4 tabs open and I am using an average of 138MB of memory. Are you sure that this is not an OS issue?

Yes it is. I "feel" it's even worse than 3.6, but for some reason it feels much snappier than before, so I don't care as I have plenty of RAM.

Does no one else think this is completely fuckin nuts? WTF? It's a stupid browser not a mini-operating system.

These days it's hard to tell the difference.

That's a matter of opinion. It has APIs, plugins, sandbox, VM,... that looks closer to an OS than a browser. But I agree, FF is a memory hog, which is why I never liked it.

That's a good point, but you have to wonder how far it's strayed from it's original purpose.

A lot of the memory is used by images/videos from rotating ads X| (and the memory from the ones rotated out don't get released)

It would be interesting to see a graph of this (the memory usage) for a given session.

Because of it's most secure browser on the planet, this is just a security overhead... Get more RAM if you need more security... And don't you dare opening multiple tabs with epic FLASH objects in it... :)

I only have this one tab open, and Chrome is using more than 150MB... Just opened up CNN.com, and it jumped to around 210MB... I think all browsers are bloated these days.

Odd, With just this tab open in chrome I have about 30MB taken up... split across two processes in task manager. Hrm.

But better than FF3. Nonetheless the UI (though attempted to rip off from Chrome) and a breed between Chrome and Office does not seem to be appealing (if not appalling) though.
