A drinking problem
-
So for St. Patrick's day I looked up making a Black and Tan(American style) and I keep getting the Guinness(drought not extra;and in a bottle) mixing with the Harp or the New Castle. So any suggestions? I've googled it quite a bit and I've tried the back of the spoon trick, etc. It still tastes good mixed together.

Surely you can't be serious? You do, after all, have a drinking problem. ;)

I get it. I get it. I just like making different kind of good drinks and having two beers sitting on top of each other full fills the geek in me and the alcoholic in me at the same time. ;P It's like a science experiment with different beer buoyancies at work.

I have always made my B&T with Guiness and Bass (I have never used Harp or New Castle). But the point of the spoon is to drizzle the Guiness, meaning to prevent creating a current, something like a light rain. If a current is created it will pull the Guiness down and mix it. Make sure to regulate the speed of your pour(of the Guiness) as well. Patience while pouring...enjoy! [EDIT] BTW - I use the spoon right side up, the idea being that as I pour, the spoon fills and then 'gently' overflows to drizzle down...its all about not create a strong current.
Jack of all trades ~ Master of none.

Or try this Black Velvet[^] instead...
Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together. Manfred R. Bihy: "Looks as if OP is learning resistant."

My favorite way to drink beer. Although, technically speaking, what you mix the Guiness determines what the name is[^]: Harp : Half and Half (my #1) Bass: Balck and Tan (DO NOT order this in Ireland, see above) New Castle : Black and Brown. Blue Moon: Black and Blue I always used the Guiness Draught in the bottles and used the bottle cap upside down to pour the guiness into. The best Half and Half I've had in the US was at a hotel in Alpharetta, Georgia (even better than Chicago). The bartender even used a toothpick to draw a shamrock in the head of the Guiness.
