Interesting pics. Why were you unimpressed? The raw poverty in view?

No to me cricket is like baseball. Really fun to play in the streets but as a spectator sport is it kind of a yawn!

No less than two pictures of people playing on train tracks and people hanging out of a car in motion. Very dangerous!

Well it is subjective. Millions in India, England, Pakistan, and Australia love the game. And these are countries where soccer is played too, so that says a lot.

Kind of a poke at the sports people. I love to play sports but I'm not so much of a "fan" myself. I always get blown away by the crazed fans at sporting events. I do think the photos are wonderful though!! I probably should change the smiley but then these posts wouldn't make sense!

Well I only follow cricket these days (when I was younger I used to follow the 4 tennis grand slams - now I don't even know the top ranked players' names).

I guess it depends on the culture, but I think the crazed fans are often drunk ones. I do get quite excited watching my favorite hockey team without the aide of booze, though it is preferred.

"...but as a spectator sport is it kind of a yawn" S'pose it comes down to "different folks, different strokes" But...you may be missing the strategic/tactical nature of cricket that is, for me, a major part of its appeal. Great to see kids playing on such a variety of pitches!

Those would be the millions of immigrants :) The only time white British are even barely aware of the sport is when they are playing the Old Enemy. And Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have more cricket fans than England and Australia. Arguably, either of the former have more fans than the latter two put together.

What raw poverty? Maybe we were looking at different pictures, but what I saw was healthy-looking people dressed in clean clothes (the psycho in prison notwithstanding). They might not get upset if the cucumber sandwiches at tiffin are below 21 degrees, but the way you live is different in different places, and I hardly expected to see a bunch of Surbiton suburbanites in pictures from half a world away.
