All the guys in the office came up with excuses to wander over to her boyfriend's office to get a peek. Crazy but definitely a good crazy. :)
I know people who have worked for strip clubs making websites. They have some pretty crazy stories that go beyond just the lax dress code. ;)

I think it is bothering my boss to no end that I am wearing my shirt outside my pants today (no clients today). He won't say anything to me about but I know he wants to. I can get away with it because I produce and I work very long hours most of the time. I'm very lucky this way but I won't push the boundaries. Now those of you who get to work from home in your pajamas and/or skivvies then my hats off to you. :)
I work less than 38 hours a week! :P And I work barefoot in short and TShirt!!!! I think I found a good work place somewhere on the Australian coast (not far from Byron Bay)... :D
A train station is where the train stops. A bus station is where the bus stops. On my desk, I have a work station.... _________________________________________________________ My programs never have bugs, they just develop random features.

hehehe been there and done that, working from an office sucks imo. When I'm stuck at some crummy work place forced to wear a suit I get nothing done, I've been working from home for just coming up 5 years now and the best part is waking up and putting on whatever is handy normally, sitting down with a a hot cup of coffee and see how badly my desktop looks like a Christmas tree with messages ;P

It's funny how you US people always complain about dress code. In Europe there's no dress code at all in any software company, except for subsidiaries of US companies (which is why I never bother to apply for them). Of course, we still shouldn't run around naked, but slippers, shorts and T-shirt are totally acceptable. Only exception is when meeting clients, or when working as a consultant at your clients place. But even then you don't neccessarily need a tie: shirt + jacket + long legged trousers are ok most of the time. (and often a jacket is overdoing it) Only when you're dealing with a bank or insurance a tie will be neccesary (unless you're female ;) ). That's about it. P.S.: I see you mentioned 'no clients today', implying that it is common for you to meet clients on most days. Maybe there's a difference; around here even project leaders don't meet with clients multiple times a week. Maybe once a week on average, or twice if you're really busy. And as a developer at most once or twice a month.

I get to wear pretty much whatever I want to work. Currently I'm wearing a metal concert t-shirt and jeans. When it finally gets warm I'll break out the shorts. We're supposed to dress nicer when a client is coming but we aren't always warned about that so I will sometimes end up in shorts and a t-shirt walking in front of a client. Thankfully I'm not required to meet with them so it's not a huge deal in the long run.

I wear jeans, shorts, hawaian shirts, jeans with holes in, t shirts, hiking boots, biker boots, dont shave, put my feet up on the desk drink coffee and go for a fag when I like. I cant think why any code development env should be any different.

The Fortune 500 company I worked for last decade implemented a strict dress code and included developers who had been excluded from previous silliness like this. I had just lost about 50 lbs so I made a trip to a local men's store and bought several suits. Wearing a suit was way beyond the dress code, but I did it even on casual days to break in the new clothes. Several managers pulled me aside to ask me if I had been interviewing elsewhere. A week later I was promoted. The moral of the story: Dress nicely and keep them guessing...

This IS the office. Get your work done there, get your rocks off elsewhere. Focus! LOL Believe me, in America we've learned to do just that *remembering more than one nearly-transparent dress worn to work as "business dress"*

Where I work, everyone is free to wear casual clothes as long as they don't push the boundaries, like wearing sleepers or shorts, sleeveless shirts... I work everyday with tennis shoes, casual t-shirts and jeans pants. Occasionally we wear formal clothes when important people come over...

What irritates me about office dress codes is how when there is an official one, a certain gender will still show up in Capri's, flip-flops and t-shirts but everyone is too worried about a certain type of lawsuit to say anything.

I work in serious software design shops in the Seattle area, and it's been 10 years since anybody but salesfolk wore anything but worn blue jeans and t-shirts, or maybe cotton slacks if they were feeling fancy or needed to get the laundry done. I used to get teased for wearing dress shirts and wool slacks, but nowadays the women in the office (and actually even the men sometimes) come up to me and say, "Wow, you dress nice for a software engineer." I'm just sayin', you don't have to dress like a homeless person to be a software engineer.

Do you fancy giving this[^] a go then? Dress code here is shirt and trousers, tie if you are meeting with someone from outside the company (which is more often than you would think cos I work for a company that provides services to a group of companies so employees of those companies (many in the same building) count as reason for strangling yourself (and wearing a tie))

Man, I have ended in such a situation, that I have wear Formal Shirt and Trousers, all 5 days a week. My colleague will never know, how will I look in Jeans/T-Shirt! :(
