It was not the case that made it so wonderful. It was the 6510 processor, one of the most versatile and easy to program of its day. It was the built-in and easy to program graphics chips, among the most powerful available. It was the sound chips that allowed users to do everything from play synthesizer music to create voice emulations. It was the ease of use for first-time computer users, and the fact that a few POKEs let you instantly replace the ROM with empty RAM and build your own operating system from scratch. It was the fully programmable serial, parallel and RS-232 ports where the dedicated hobbyist could plug in home-made robots and make them dance by pressing a few keys. The original C64 was an amazing machine. This.... this is like Paris Hilton starring in a remake of "Gone With The Wind" with Gilbert Godfrey playing Rhett Butler.

I said it then, I'll say it again: Will they ever stop desecrating Commodore's name? Every few years someone comes with idea to build standard PC and then slams Commodore's name and logo on it, expecting it'll bring them millions of dollars.

Beg to differ... still interesting for the few (maybe very few) of us with a sweet tooth for this kind of stuff. -- RP
