Smart Phones Listening To Your Life[^] This is so wrong! There could be meetings, and commercially sensitive information floating about. There could be sexual peccadillos that could lead to blackmail. There could be the possibility that they may try to sell you something. No end to the horror!

Super creepy. That social networking one that listens to "shows" I watch could lead to less than ideal outcomes. :-O :~
This is not the age of reason, this is the age of flummery, and the day of the devious approach. Reason’s gone into the backrooms where it works to devise means by which people can be induced to emote in the desired direction.

"The apps are Color, Shopkick and IntoNow, all of which activate the microphones in users' iPhone or Android devices in order to gather contextual information that provides some benefit to the user mercenary, intrusive scum who wrote and manage the apps." I knew there was something wrong with the sentence. It didn't take long to figure it out.

Fail. I think people like Apple should be blamed for not making their devices ask the user if the "app" (I hate this phrase.) is allowed access to the microphone!
See if you can crack this: b749f6c269a746243debc6488046e33f
So far, no one seems to have cracked this! The unofficial awesome history of Code Project's Bob! "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid."

No, it isn't smartphones that are doing it. It is certain applications that do it, and the idiots that use them are responsible. The apps are: Color - creates temporary social neworks. Hm, a bunch of sad sacks that are so lame that when they are in the vicinity of somebody else with the same application installed that they will use their phone to communicate with each other rather than walk a few extra steps to actually talk to them, so no loss there IntoNow - social networks based upon TV shows. Hm, a bunch of sad sacks that don't have a real life, so no loss there Shopkick - really no different to loyalty cards. If you're happy to let supermarkets track your shopping habits to get a few extra pounds/euros/bucks off your shopping, why would you be worried about this one The rules about smartphone apps are the same as for your computer. Does it do something you want it to do? Are you prepared to accept how it uses your hardware to achieve what it does? If the answer to both is yes then install it. If the answer is no to either question then don't install it. If you never ask the second question then you've probably got lots of malware already so a little more won't make any difference

They are always trying to sell you something. Just look at your spam folder.
