Windows 7 Performance Score = 7.45

Base score = 5.9, because of the slow, tedious 6 Gbps SATA drive. :(( What's a guy to do? Needless to say, I'm pleased with the end product of my upgrade. I've silenced the noisy server, retired the dodgy old Dell micro-ATX machine, and settled in for a comfy squat with this new machine. So far I've only managed to install Office 2007 on it, but little by little I'll restore full functionality to the home SkyNet representative. It's going to be decidedly odd trying to sleep without a hurricane in the next room, but I think I'll eventually get used to the silence of 7 fans emitting not a whisper. :-D

:(( 5.0 And the best one here is the hard drive that is 5.9! :sigh:

Upgraded my old Samsung Spinpoint 400GB to an OCZ Vertex2 3.5" 128GB. Performance score for my primary hard disk is: 7.7 A known that SSD is expensive. But boy what a performance boot that you can give an old computer! Now i got a SSD 128GB + a data storage HDD at 2TB. SSD, try it, love it.

That is about the best you can get from a non-SSD drive. Same as mine.

There's no about involved. It is the best you can get with a purely spinning drive. Scores above that require SSD levels of latency and random IO performance.

Programming is a race between programmers trying to build bigger and better idiot proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots, so far... the universe is winning.

Having a completely silent comp is amazing. I bought one for audio recording, but love using it for everything.

It's very weird. I find myself checking the office to see if the computer is still on...:suss:

I get creeped out when I'm using it. You built yours right? What parts did you get that keep it so silent? I had one built by these guys: http://www.adkproaudio.com/choose2.asp[^]

The case is a Cooler Master, and comes with 3 or 4 fans - I didn't count them, but there's room for several more. The video card is a Gigabyte N550 something-or-other with its own fan. The PSU is a Corsair 750W modular, with another fan or two. The CPU fan came with the Intel CPU. All are deathly silent. That's one industry that's come a long way since I last bought a fan! :-D

Same hard drive score here - with two Caviar Blacks striped!

I've just got the one Caviar Black, but I'd thought the 6 Gbps SATA would make it leap. I'm not complaining, mind you. This thing is the fastest PC I've ever touched, and the quietest. Now I'm going to have to buy a game, I guess. Win7 doesn't include Solitaire. :sigh:
