So what is the popular choice - IPad2 or Xoom? I am digging into both the websites, and finding compelling features both sides :) I love to see more screen space in Xoom (10+ inches) as compared to IPad2. I am planning to buy one of these, and was thinking which way to go? My main applications would be: books reading (e-books - techy books as well), watching videos, email + internet stuff, and if possible running some business apps like spreadsheets, word processor, Presentation, etc. What has been your choice, if you have bought one of these toys.

No tablet will ever be able to run business "apps" with satisfaction (cue the Rolling Stones); If you want to do that, get a laptop. You could get an iPad wifi v.1 for cheap these days to try it out. One of the issue related to the screen size with the xoom is that it works best in one orientation (which one, I can't remember) and that when you rotate it, it does not "look" as good as it should (the applications do not look good) because of the screen size (Height vs. Width) My choice would be for an iPad v2 (because of legacy apps for the iphones) but I still do not find a real usage for it (I still can't borrow eBooks from the public library). Max.

    Watched code never compiles.

I was about to say get the Xoom simply because it is not made by Apple... but then realised the Xoom is Android, so for me, neither of the devices

I find the Xoom to be more compelling than the iPad for several reasons:

          • Larger display.
          • Flash (admittedly in beta, but will soon be supported officially).
          • Publishing Android apps is much easier than going through Apple's restrictive process.
          • A better OS (imho): Android 3 handles notifications, multi-tasking and app switching better. Also, developing for Android is a lot easier (and cheaper) than iOS - i.e. free tools.
          • Truly open architecture.

I can't wait to get my grubby hands on a Xoom!  Meanwhile, I'm writing for Android using the simulator. /ravi

I would say "Xoom". I seen someone posted about the orientation. Android 3.0 is special designed for tablets. It has a cool concept called Fragmentation. Each part in the screen are fragmented (like left pane, right pane in Outlook). I admit that the most of the apps are not optimized for Android 3.0. But they will soon. Xoom also has 4G support too. Android apps are cheap in current period of time. Integrated tightly with Google Cloud Services. Free Video Players available in Market which can play any video format. But it is up to you. Even though I like Android so much, sometime my mind tend to lean towards Apple. Ooohh! Shiny! ;)

Neither. The Samsung 10.1 has started to be released in various countries and is making its way around the globe slowly. The tablet is currently tied to mobile networks, but i was speaking to the Samsung Rep at a recent expo and they are expecting a wifi only version to be released in a couple of months. I got my hands on it while there for a play and it is on my list to buy, unless something else comes along between now and then.

I'm getting myself a Xoom as soon as it comes out with European 3G (scheduled to the middle of May). Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead with anything with an Apple logo!

That's strange. Here in Sweden we can get a wifi version but not at mobile (3G) - yet, anyway. It's coming, though...

You'll be able to upgrade the Xoom OS and features with a simple transfer of files. You'll be able to upgrade the ipad OS and features with a simple transfer of several hundred bucks.
