Dentists are not my favourite places to be.

Had a filling fall out, so went to see the Dentist. It had been a while, so I got told off. Then he did the inspection and decided that not only was the filling to be replaced, but it needed root canal work first, plus there were some other fillings needed to be replaced. Also, he advised a crown and took an x-ray and gave me a basic cleaning. So far the bill is circa £1000, but he did give me an offer on a course of whitening (about £200). (I am in the wrong game, Dentistry is where the money is!) Anyway, I am sitting here like I have had a stroke, left hand side of my face completely numb, I know there will be pain soon, and I am £200 poorer from today's installment of the bill. However, he is an excellent dentist (at those prices he better be), and I hope to have some real nice gleaming gnashers by the end of June.

Any job where you get to drill and screw people is where the money is at. You should be rolling in the dough once you get into politics. :-D

Yes, but then there is the cost of reinstalling all that I have learned over the last 44 years. I haven't been making backups.

My dentist very, very rarely uses any anesthetic. You may go arrjhhhhhh!!! and RLF, but wait. She avoids the drill. I lost a filling a year back. She X-rayed my gob and following a sharp reverse wistle, the one mechanics use before warning of the expensive work, said that I might need root work. After I regained consciousness, she said that she wouldn't try that yet. Instead she cleaned the hole out manually - drilling is quicker but just takes away good tooth - and filled it. Then a few weeks later she re-X-rayed and decided that that the root work was not needed. 90% of the time, if there is no pain then root work is performed as precaution because they can't be arsed to re-check and because they can save time and make more money. Find a really good dentist, one who agrees to a 'no-drill' rule, and you'll be happy to spend two hours in the chair. I know I am.

By way of analogy, if I was driving my car and a wheel fell off, I would not go back to the mechanic who had installed it. ;P On a personal note, I just don't visit dentists. By the time I was a teenager, I coul no longer sit in a dentist chair without the most incredible feeling of dread attacking me. Scared shitless would have felt better. :) So I've not had a dentist look into my teeth since my army days back when I was in my 20's. Amazingly, other than a few chips and cracks, I still have all my teeth including my four wisdom teeth. I'm either very lucky or there's something in my genes that's helped my teeth last so long. :)

There is no need for anesthetic when there is no drill. Trust me on this, I HATED going but she's completly changed my opinion.
