Your experience with IE9

I was just wondering how others feel about IE9 so far. I was nagged into the update last week, and thus far have mixed emotions. Something about it broke my remote desktop software, but I have a workaround. On the plus side, it does seem much faster, as in loading a pdf, and I like the new look/layout. The behaviors for file downloading and plugins have changed completely, which means I will just have to document procedures for yet another browser. Your thoughts?

Used it for about 3 minutes after html5 angry birds came out to see what all the hype was about before getting bored and concluding it was of zero redeeming merit. (Note: To give credit where it's due: this was about 2.5 minutes longer than I expected it to take.)

If I didn't have to support it, I might've done the same. I did hide the update on my main dev workstation, but may update it as well, considering the article posted this morning about the developer tools. I have been playing around with it and can see some real value in what I have uncovered so far...love the split screen...change a value and see the effect. ooohhh!!! Shiny!

I can't create line breaks in a Facebook message when using IE9. Or, I can create them, but the caret can't navigate to them. :(( Also, I had to turn off hardware acceleration to fix an infinite error/close problem. :(( :((

My experience? I allowed the update by mistake, so it installed. When it had finished installing, it opened, so I closed it. That was some time ago. I think it's still there, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort to check.

I did hide the update on my main dev workstation, but may update it as well, considering the article posted this morning about the developer tools. I have been playing around with it and can see some real value in what I have uncovered so far...love the split screen...change a value and see the effect. ooohhh!!! Shiny!

My remote desktop solution is NTR Global. Normally, I have a small executable of theirs that starts with windows that handles the connections. This is the application that started going nuts with IE9. If I log on to their website as an operator, using IE9, the application behaves normally. I am not sure how IE9 on the client side is going to work, but I already know that the procedures are different, so new documentation to create. Most of my clients are still XP, so I don't have too much to worry about yet.

To me, its a general, dull browser - just extension of IE6, 7, 8.

Hi, Kmoorevs, Find it okay. Hate: 1. large circular, space-hoggingly redundant, "back" button, which I am afraid is a mutant-spore which eventually will hatch into a frakking ribbon UI. 2. putting the trigger for the 'Favorites/Feeds/History' icon on the right side, instead of leaving it on the left, and making 'pinning' the 'Favorites open the pinned window on the right side. bizarre ? 3. changing what happens when you download to a UI that appears at the bottom of the screen. 4. asking again, and again, at random, via pop-up, with no way to disable the pop-up reminder, if you wish to de-activate extensions. Like: 1. clearly faster, and fewer "problem" sites that don't display properly compared to version <= 8.## 2. they finally, without any announcement, changed the behavior of the 'Favorites facility: it now does 'retain state:' the last folder you saved a new Favorite to is, by default, the 'save target' the next time you save a Favorite, thus saving you an insane amount of scrolling down if you have a long list of folders under 'Favorites. I, and many other people, had complained about this during development, but they always listed our complaints as 'closed' issue "by design." evidently someone with some common sense got the message. Blah-blah: 1. Favorite management, from within IE, still in the dark ages in IE, imho. 2. I find other interfaces, Chrome, Opera, more attractive visually. best, Bill

Except for not being able to print from it, I've been quite pleased with it. I've seen better performance from it than from IE8 or IE7 and have no complaints about how it renders pages.
