What does a developer do in holiday? Does he simply like to be lying at the beach? Would you like reading the day over, seeing cities and attractions, having parties? Is it a holiday for him to develop what he likes with no restrictions and get rid of ideas? Learn something new? Could you as a developer enjoy holiday with no internet and no pc?

Could you as a developer enjoy holiday with no internet and no pc? Absolutely. I like to go somewhere where I have no electronic devices at all and my only worry is what buffet to go to..

Naturally, I write software. What could be more fun? ;) ;)

Just because the code works, it doesn't mean that it is good code.

After around 30 years of writing software (or being on computers) 40+ hours a week almost every single week during that time, I just need to get away on a vacation.

Runs away from technology as far as possible. I spent 20 days without it last March and loved it. Did a lot of things in those days. :)

It depends, you code for a living or for run? I'm rather surprised that these fools pay me for doing what I like the most! So, the answers will be: Yes, last time i had my lap on my side and was playing with some open-source, beta projects Not really, I like vacations to rest, those activities only kick your @rss and you end up being more tired than before Yes, absolutely! Even breaking rules like developing without proper unit tests! No, that's what the office hours are for :-D Yes, but it shall not surpass the 3-day limit or I will start going anxious, telling bad jokes to any one who crosses my path, making suggestions to people who is not asking for my help and ranting about anything even if nobody is there to listen me...it is called "codeproject"-itis abstinence syndrom, oh yeah, and seeing hamsters crawling the walls...all before hallucinating the green skinned alien with the right eye bigger than the left one that comes for me for a cavity check... no not again Bob, please stop!!!! I promise I'll go to QA more often please!

Could you as a developer enjoy holiday with no internet and no pc? NO! The internet is not just work, it also is a source of information for me. But as I have the tendency to travel the western world, most hotels are having a network for me. regards Torsten

I work on my own projects on nights, weekends and my days off. I can't imagine being without my dev tools and decent internet access. /ravi

Anything that doesn't involve a computer and seems fun at the time and is legal.

I once spent a spring break developing a new rendering algorithm. However, my preferred vacation more recently is to do something physical (swimming, hiking, what have you), relax, repeat. Only if there is something I'm seriously interested in at the moment would I spend that time programming.

Me I went on a permanent escape from developing, and went back to trying to figure out what my real life ambition was and how to get from m to z in the shortest amount of time, since I spent my life writing senseless code that not one ever appreciated but me.

Absolutely no pc and internet. Definetly no emails. My usal mobile number get switched off and I only use a number that only my family and friends know. Other then the phone the only piece of technology I might use is a GPS. The missus, myself and the kids usually go on an overland trip on our motorbikes. Last year we did a 3 week (5000Km) trip through Angola.
