So my current car is starting to show its age. I've been thinking about setting some money on fire and buying a Mustang GT Convertible. Something about 400+ horsepower just sounds like a lot of fun. And according to my girlfriend "chicks dig it." Anyone own a Mustang they would care to share their thoughts on? I'd like to hear what people think about the build quality, reliability, etc.

Not the kind of chicks I dig. My kind of chicks prefer not to pollute and spend the money saved on fuel on spa days.

Hey it's not for everybody. And I guess some dudes just dig chicks who smell like patchouli oil and have lots of pit hair. Good luck to you sir.

Perhaps you don't know what they have done at the spa.

Dave, please check the "consumers report" from the last three years. It’s an English not American magazine and they make their researches among 1.5 million car owners. The car makers you have listed are on the very bottom of the list for reliability. The most reliable car makers for the last two years are Honda, Toyota, Ford, GM, and Nissan in this order. Make some research; you are too intelligent to be a slave of some stereotypes coming from the mid-90s.

Last trip to Germany it was cheaper to get a car at the hotel than a taxi at the place I was visiting (ten minute walk)- it was a Merc in great condition. A luxury ride doign 150kph on the autobahn. Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeowww!

Alternatively you could buy something good. Yank Cars are terrible at corners, shodily built and underpowered for the engine size. Better off with a Jaguar, BMW or Audi. Well engineered and reliable, and with more class than the 'Look at me' vulgarity of the GT.

The Corvette is rated by Top Gear pretty well. And its cheap. Way cheapeer than European stuff of the same spec. And dont forget the blatant vulgarity of the American Muscle car is part of its appeal. I quite like them in fact. They arent about going fast, but making an impact. Sure an Imprezza or an M3 will clean the floor with it, but who wants to lok like a hoddie from an estate?

One day a mouse is driving along in his sports car when he hears someone shouting for help so he reverses back up the road gets out and looks down into the ditch at the side of the road. Down in the ditch is a lion who says "Please help me, I've fallen down into this ditch and now I can't get out". "OK" says the mouse, "I'll lower a rope down to you and tow you out with my sports car, it is ever so powerful and should be able to easily get you out". And so it goes, the lion thanks the mouse and off they go their own separate ways. Some weeks later the lion is walking down the same road when he hears shouting for help and looks down into the same ditch where the mouse is standing on his sports car. "Please help me" says the mouse, "I have crashed my car into this ditch and now I can't get out". "No problem" replies the lion, "I'll lower my penis down into the ditch, you can hold onto it and I'll pull you out". Which is exactly what happened. The moral of the story is, if you have a big enough penis then you don't need a flashy sports car.

To be fair, they don't have that many corners over there do they?

Hey, HEY, HEY! I currently drive a 1990 Corolla Hatchback, 1.6 litre with 5 speed manual. This little shitbox has got me from Sydney to Canberra and back 20+ times in the past year and still going (reckon I'm coming down for at least the next 8 weeks having just done the last 8 weeks). Now the fact I own it and it's red, may make it special, but I reckon their near bullet proof.

Mine was a bit older; 1986 maybe? It had a 3-speed automatic. The motor was the 1.6L, but fed by a 2-barrel carburetor. In other words, it was exactly like yours, except with two fewer gear ratios, and it wouldn't start in bad weather.

Hi Thrakazog, I have no experience, personally, with the Mustang auto, but there is a man named Edward Smith who says he has had sex with over one-thousand autos, so you may want to contact him[^]. According to the article he's in touch with around five-hundred other autophiles, and can probably refer you to someone else if the Mustang is not among his amours, or maybe to someone he knows who is a "horsepower freak." It's kind of weird how the CNET site has begun to cover new automobiles, along with innumerable articles comparing every spawn of Android with the iPad, but so far as I know they are only voyeurs. best, Bill
