Switching from a Standard TV to LED
-
So I'm going to retire the normal 21" TV and getting a new 32" LED TV with Full HD. I've done some research and narrowed down to these two: LG LE 5500 and Sony Bravia EX520 I just can't seem to decide between these two so I would appreciate your personal opinions on this!

Both are recognised as good makes, but without specs it is hard to say. Get the one with the better refresh rate though. (100Hz minimum)

I think both of them provide 100Hz. :sigh:

Yeah I guess I'll have to do that in the end. Do you think any of the above has better picture quality than the other?

In my experience the picture quality is better than my eyes can tell the difference in so what does it matter. Most people buy the wrong size TV for their room and stick it in the wrong place on the wall anyway.

You can pay as much as you like for a TV but unfortunately that doesn't make the quality of the programmes better. :sigh:

We replaced our old style TV with the LG 32LD450 (non-HD) and are very pleased with the quality of picture and sound. The only way to compare picture quality for yourself is to go to a TV showroom. Incidentally we needed a new aerial to get a decent FreeView signal on this TV, and during a conversation with the fitter about different TVs he did suggest that Sony are very expensive and not as good quality as people are led to believe. His opinion, I know, but he wasn't trying to sell us anything.

Alright then Thanks for your opinion! :)

Yeah that's true. I was initially looking for a 40" LED but thought about my decision again once I carefully observed my living room. A 32" is what will fit for the room at home. :)

It's a bit sad or so since about two showrooms near my home don't have the LG model I mentioned but they have the Sony model! Will have to go and check out more shops. Thanks!

SONY is a self-righteous, thieving, negligent, malicious company. They do make some shiny stuff, but they've lost me as a customer forever. Does that make it easier for you to decide? If you think so, I'd recommend that you take a look at samsung line up. There's panasonic (at my home, which is really good too).

In my experience different people use different quality metrics - sometimes even complete opposites. Some people like crispness while other people call that "harsh", to some people contrast is everything but others think high contrast makes the picture look unnatural, etc. So I'd say you'd better go look at them yourself - our opinions are likely to be different from yours.

:D   Well I suppose that speaks volumes about the current situation of Sony products. I did have a look at Panasonic's Viera ones and Samsung just refuses to give a decent LED TV below 48k. :sigh:

That's very true. Unfortunately I'm on the hunt for a showroom near home which has both of these models on display. The one or two I visited have the Sony model alone.

Mine is from the "Viera" series too. I don't even remember the price, model number, or type (LED, plasma, whatever) because I just don't watch TV, and this is for my parents who watch it. I have to tell that it is quite a nice TV though. The Samsung ones are quite good too. I recommend that you have the store assistant play the same video on two TVs (samsung and panasonic) side by side and decide which one would be better for you. Somehow, the brand LG is associated with the word "cheap" in my mind, and I'll never buy anything from them too. I'll add that I've always had good experiences buying samsung (phone, notebooks, ac, tv) and panasonic (ac, tv, sound system) products.

If you do decide to go with the Sony, for goodness sake don't register on-line.

I'll have to lookup Samsung I guess. Let me see what I come up with. :)

Yeah that's often a tie breaker for sure but then some stores do deliberately turn up or turn down the TV settings to promote something I suppose.

Wow you must have had quite a bad experience with LG.
