Same here, and I live in a small, country town, where everyone says that they couldn't live without their cars. IMO, they could live a lot better without the expense and maintenance time required for a car. And I'm kinda proof of that.

Lost count of the number of cars I have owned (because I have been driving for longer than I care to say not because I have lots of cars) but my favorite was my Jaguar S-Type with a Toyota Land Cruiser a close second. Can't even remember some of the cars I've driven or owned and now I don't even have a car: walk to the station and drive the wife's car if we go out.

Jeez it's hard to remember, and I'm not a car fanboy but... A big, old, blue one, automatic, stick shift (with a windscreen squirter where the clutch pedal would be) - which looked like a rolls Roys in the dark, up a Brighton lane, after a few sherbets (honest ocifer, I thought it was my motor!) I jsut remembered it was a Wolseley [^] which i bought for 70 quid A white Ford Fiesta 1.1 (company car - all the company's cars were white fords, with the exception of the MD (white porche 911) and the receptionist (nothing) Toyota Celica 2.0 - was the most comfortable car i ever drove Vauxhall cavalier 2.0 4 wheel drive, turbo nutter bastard car. Again a company car - I was meant to get an old heap, but it broke down on the way to be delivered to the office, so they had to send a replacement - which was meant to be temporary but I managed to keep until I left. was fabulous in the snow and ice, driving past cars in ditches over the hills ion sussex Mazda 626 (in fact, I think it was a Ford, but it was identical to the 626) had to buy it urgently to start a new job - and we had no money - and it was cheap - and it got stolen from the carpark on my first day at the new job Honda S2000 - best Car Ever (for me) this was a fantastic car, no two ways about it... Honda CRV - then along came the boy In between somewhere there were a coupld of Ford Kas which we bought just to piss people off when they asked what car we had.

a while ago, when I was younger, with some friends we had a terrific idea: adding four wheels to a "pedalò" (UK English; US, Canadian & Australian paddle boat or pedal boat, also water bike) and paddling our way thru downtown Milano. That would have been the most interesting car... Cheers Federico

Crappy small cars can be a lot of fun. Where I come form the lanes are vey narrow, often no more than 6 ft, with very high hedges/earth banks each side. A small cheap car is a lot more fun, you drive half the time with it scraping on the hedge/mud, you dont care, its smal, nimble... Any big car like a Ferrari would be dogmeat. The TAs a funny thing though, it looks like a mini-van! :)

Yeah, its a nice car. Only problem is the power steering belts break, fall into the cam shaft belt, and destroy the engine. And thats what happened to mine. :(

1978 Triumph Spitfire --> 1979 Triumph Spitfire --> 1990 Eunos Roadster (MX5 Gray Import) --> 2001 Audi A4. I'm currenly driving my Father-in-Law's Mercedes E class, despite the fact it really shift I hate driving it. a) Its an automatic and automatics are for remtards. b) The stopping distance compares unfavourably with a transatlantic liner(really bad, given the driving "style" here) c) It handles like a tank b&c are caused by the sheer mass of the thing. My favourite was the Spitfire: I rebuilt the first one, so it was very much my car, it handled beautifully (at least in the dry), had the most precise steering I've ever used and although it wasn't very powerful, could pull away thanks to the first two gears being pretty low (actually the gearbox was really good). It was also gorgeous to look at. I sold my last one in 2003, and still miss it.

At the moment I have: * Saab 9-5 Aero, gets me to and from work. * Porsche 944, used for trackdays. * Opel Calibra Turbo, sadly not much used these days. Used to be a summer car. I also own parts of: * 1/3 BMW race car used for endurance racing. * 1/4 Ford Cortina that is under rebuild to be a race car with modern drivetrain and chassis.
