Their is nobility and honor when you are "defending" your country. Many countries had to defend themselves during WW2 and other conflicts/wars. My question to you would be: come up with a better way to defend your country and people without conflict and human sacrifice.

Now you are changing the debate. I stated soldiers are not inherently noble, that much devestation and suffering has been caused by them over the years and that the things praised by Oakman are in fact aspects of free thinking (which I do respect).

No, actually it comes principly from a guy I know who, a Polish Count, who fought the Germans of course, and described the kind of barbarity committed by German troops in eastern Europe. They took a boarding school in Poland, and hung all the children, out of the windows. Now, tell me soldiers are noble. The Russians were no better when they took Germany.
