Unnecessary down votes [modified]

Hi, I don't know what was in that message that seems to have caused a lot of negative reactions. Well, I am assuming something was there that vexed some people, and that you removed it later on, if it just had "..." from the start, then I'm perplexed. FYI: when it says "Score: 2.26 (26 votes)" that really means 26 different members have voted in such a way that the average score is 2.26, it is not one person voting you down repetitively. It could for instance be 20 people voting 1, and 6 people voting 5, or any other combination (keep in mind that the votes get weighted by the "rep color" of the voters, so it isn't a simple average). :) PS: I was able to up your score a little...

Once a member votes, they can vote again but it will not count.

I really dont like that some one don't like meDon't take it so personally... it means that they don't like what you posted, not necessarily that they don't like you!

yep.. i downvote when appropriate (like a wrong answer), but rarely on something like that post...

That's probably asking too much of an anonymous downvoter! (I didn't vote on your post) I take this back, lots of people explained their vote. (I still didn't vote on your post)

" I am already 300+ points down because of that post" If it will make you feel better think of it as -300 points up because of that post. In any case get a life and don't worry about some silly reputation on the internet.

That sure is harmless, but please keep in mind a number of people around here don't like text speak nor sloppy spelling. IMO not many would downvote for such reasons, unless it was a programming question showing a total lack of care to both content and style. I glanced at your recent message list and saw nothing extraordinary as far as scores go, except for the one here that is. I guess poll messages are visited by a huge number of people, much more so than anything else in the forums. So I can only suggest you move on; AFAICT it will be completely forgotten in a few days, activity here slows down as the week progresses, and there will be another poll next Monday.

CP Vanity has been updated to V2.3thanks luc actually every time someone upvote me (like you did just now), The exact no. of -16 votes pops up in my reputation points to balance that upvote. If a person cannot vote multiple times, i really wonder how come exact no of different people come and downvote me every time. Anyways moving on as you said... ;) cheers!

As I said votes are weighted, so in a programming forum, when I upvote an answer, it gets 40 points as an answer upvote is worth 5 points, but with platinum Authority my weight would be 8 (4 for gold, 2 for silver, 1 for white/bronze). In the rep history page, it would show up as "Programming Forum Message Upvoted", 40, Authority. In the score, it would raise the floating-point number, and it would increment the vote count shown by 1 (not by the weight!). I don't know the exact details for messages in the poll; would be not 5 but somewhat less, maybe 2. And might be Debator color, or Participant color, I just don't know, not all the details are documented in the FAQ. If you suspect there is a bug in the rep system, you might take a screen shot of your rep history page, and e-mail that to Chris, he can be reached at chris(at)codeproject(dot)com. Make sure you add a reference to this thread, as well as to your message that started all this. :)

Keep your head down and your mouth shut when this happens: bleating on about it will only bring more down voting and people do it because they can so man-up, shut up and move on.

Is shouting "first" really contributing anything? Lots of message boards get overrun with this, OK its a minor annoyance, but if I ever did that here I'd strongly expect to get downvoted. Some individuals seem to regard this as some kind of competitive sport. Some other people get a kick out of posting the millionth message to a board. Not naming names ;-) (ps. I wasn't one of the downvoters - I don't go in for doing such things anonymously personally).
