So you want me to vote down your rep points if I think "no" and vote up your rep points if i think "yes"? I notice neither of the first 2 posters have fallen for this. Are you predicting a lot of high rep members are going to vote "yes"? :-D

Uhm, didn't know about that - not that I care much, but I'm going to... rephrase my request.

I'm voting yes. At any rate I'd love to have that UI, as long as there is the old one available.

We can only hope. Trying to drive a touch UI with a mouse will be as much fail as a mouse UI with a finger tip.

        Yes, that's true.

I think it will be entirely 3D like in the first Jurassic Park's command room – the folders look like apartment blocks in a city and all… :-D

I really like it. And I know that there will be an option(Metro or normal) for the full version. There will be metro/touch only for mobile devices but both options for full win8 => notebooks and desktops. Else I would have hated it. :)

It can't. WinFS was nothing but a bunch of specs and early prototypes. Win8 UI is already coded and runs. Now, if you are asking whether it is going to be accepted by the users, I have no idea.

Yeah, it's interesting given this talk: The future of touch[^] The premise was that we are still in an early phase of understanding touch interfaces and are mostly applying touch to very mouse oriented interfaces. A lot of the examples they gave for full touch interfaces were more like a combination of kinect and surface and naturally using both hands for a combination of rough and fine manipulation of objects. They also talked a bit about how touch is really just one part of the bigger motion sensing picture. The Win8 UI seems very tablet oriented though. Of course, this is also a way to scratch the back of hardware vendors and help drive sales of new touch monitors.

I really hope so. WinFS had pretty good prototypes too. I mean, it worked, but it was probably too complex to be useful for normal users.

Courtesy of the 'Kinnel we'll all be using 3D gestures by the time Weight/Wait comes out, thus obviating the need to actually touch the screen. An intense coding session will look something like this[^] (note the correct use of the mouse).
