I just got promoted today!!

I transitioned from government contractor to government employee back on March 28th. With a pay cut of almost $50k! When I asked for two more hours of vacation a pay-period due to my 8 years of excellent work I was shown a photo of soldiers and was told that my sacrifice for my country was no where near theirs. No more vacation time for me. Been looking for a new job ever since!

I'm a veteran and I assure you that I didn't get shit for my sacrifice. I didn't even get a thank you. I had paper work to fill out and because I had a security clearance I had to be debriefed. That's it. No awards ceremony. No gold watch. Just a lovely wife to finally come home to.

Joe I've got a mate, has a great apartment in Vegas, only 500k, small but well appointed and you would be doing the right thing by taking it off his hands. Either jobs are difficult to find there or they have a great HR person, that's one hell of a pay cut. And that is the reason why I'm still a contractor with the same company after 6 years!

Fair enough question. My DD-214 is blank other than my name, rank, and dates served and I intend to keep it that way. I will tell you that I worked for the government during the Clinton Administration and I spent time in South America among other places. I wasn't your average infantry soldier even though I started off that way like anyone else; when I left the military, I was not attached to a regular infantry unit. I served for almost 5 years. I started my journey off at Fort Benning and finished in Washington, DC. Thanks for asking.

Wheee! I bet you got a debriefing and a half before you got out. Something I have always wondered about: do they make you do time in the active reserves after something like that. Hey, it's not like it's a gold watch or anything, but I thank you, appreciate what you did, and am glad you made it through to the other side. Apropos of your title, I always figured the best promotions available to me was "civilian 1" ;)

I was on inactive reserve status for four years after my official discharge date. My security clearance was terminated five years after I left the military. A debriefing is exactly what you might think it is...I really can't say anymore than that. What is funny is that my debriefing only took about ten minutes and a few signatures and it lasts a life time. :)

Had a guy in Basic and AIT like that sort of... The drills were pissed that his 201 was mostly redacted. Also very curious that his Class A's sported dolphins and he knew entirely too much about the Légion étrangère. Odd to see that on an E-4 Army puke. ;P Oh, and no, none of us ever found out _any_thing about his prior service.
