Background info: I was hired 2 months ago to work on a new technology that's not yet entered its 'beta', meaning it is not really usable yet, but I'm supposed to learn it and be ready for clients requests using that technology (sorry if it's sounding strange, there are NDAs involved). No clients have shown up so far, and I've done nearly everything I can to get a feel for the tech, so I haven't got much to do. ;) Monday evening, after a quite uneventful work day, I have a chat with my bosses, where we decide that I will start the next day working on something useful for the company and somehow related to what I'm supposed to work on. But my current work PC is unusable for that kind of development because of some stuff I needed to install for my main assignment. No problem, I will take the PC of the guy who previously worked on my new assignment. Tuesday morning, I get to work, preparing myself to setup a PC on my already crowded desk :~ (it's a Shuttle). I notice a faint weird but familiar smell, but don't think too much about it. I unplug it fully, noticing it is off although it was on the evening before, take it to my desk, struggle a bit to find an available power outlet, get a VGA cable from one of my two monitors, a keyboard, then press the power button. It begins to boot, so far so good. Meanwhile, I find a mouse, I plug it to an USB port behind the Shuttle, and... it shuts down. Ooops, maybe I've hit the power switch? Nope. Maybe I've unplugged the power cord? Nope. Well... I restart the bugger... it stops after a short while. So without more details... a PC that was running for maybe two weeks without being used just decided to burn its PSU the morning it is getting used again. :omg: A co-worker told me it noticed the smell when he came in (much earlier than me obviously), but didn't trace it to the PC. We don't have Shuttle PSUs in stock (we don't use too many of them, for which I'm glad), and nobody's available to make the required setup :( My Tuesday afternoon was... interesting. Trying to work my way through a big mess of Silverlight code without any debugging available, placing MessageBoxes everywhere to debug launch issues, parsing issues, etc... Let's say I've spent more time reading old jokes and new Lounge posts than actually coding. Oh I did a bunch of commits after doing Right Click -> Remove and sort usings + Ctrl E/D (ie auto indent whole file), which is definitely an improvement for the code base. Oh, forgot to mention, the last weeks I worked on my main assignment,

I thought you were going to explain why you are spending so much time on CP? Did I miss something?

Yes, in the middle of a BIG bunch of text :-D: I've got to wait to get a new PC up and running, as the alternative is too tedious.

I had a PSU go last week. Its common, especially for kit that is running 24/7 then turned off and on a few times.

Look at it this way: You'll probably never experience anything like this again, so make the most of it.

Hey, it's really a curse! My 'new' PC isn't really working well either  It's got a Kaspersky slowing it to a crawl, trying to uninstall that, but the monster comes back even after you cut its head (well, the uninstall crashed the whole PC). Then it lost its integrated network card (probably Kaspersky related), uninstall card, reboot, reinstall card. So, Visual Studio isn't yet ready to roll... Well, it's only 3pm, maybe I will get some work done today
