Best is just too subjective. But this band[^] is one I never tire of listening to. They never did a world tour and had no airplay in NA. But honestly, they will be played at my funeral and wake. That'll make for a rockin' send off.

The Who meets Punk. Not bad, but great?

I think so, the more I listen to them the better they get. The stuff Pete Docherty has done since is good too, a lot of people don't realise because they only read the shit about him, but he's got some amazing talent. I haven't listened to anything earlier than Oasis, apart from The Doors and I think them two would make up the remainder of my Top 3.

I listened to Definitely Maybe the other week for the first time in years and a lot of it is very dated IMHO and a little bit, well, shit. Although I thought it was very, very good back then. Saw them play live shortly before they took off, when they were just getting coverage in the music press for behaving badly. They were really shite then, best thing they did was a ropey cover of I Am The Walrus. Couldn't believe how good the album was when it came out a few months later.

Best? Who knows. My favourite is The Cult, closely followed by The Who. Then perhaps Alice Cooper - back when Alice Cooper was a band.

Yes I know what you mean about dated. I started listening to them before they got big and I was just getting in to music then (Think I was about 15). They were always my favourite band but I don't think I could listen to the old stuff now, hence why I chose Libertines. Incidently have you heard any Beadyeye? I wasn't expecting much, but some of it is actually quite good.

I'm with andy. AC/DC no question. [edit] Just to qualify this, I'm not a Bon Scott fan (too young I suppose). I've got the studio albums from 'Back in Black' to 'Black Ice' (except 'Flick o t Switch' and Fly o t Wall') in chronological order on endless loop playing on my iPod. I can write code to this all day. [/edit]

Heh, funny you should mention that... I was at a concert last weekend for The Machine, one of the more popular Pink Floyd tribute bands... A concert on a boat decked out like a nightclub that sailed around New York Harbor... The band played three songs (Well, two and a half), then the boat's generator died and we were adrift for two hours while another boat towed us back to the dock. Imagine 500 Pink Floyd fans on a boat, at night, without power (Meaning: No lights), but with copious amounts of alcohol and certain other "substances".

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

To be the best band it would have to be a big band... something like Glenn Miller's.

See, this is the thing. While I love doing the technical stuff for showing off to the lads, I also love just kicking back and playing some slow blues or, gasp, some acoustic tracks. It can be useful to know the technical side, but without feeling it's all for nothing. I know I've got it right if I'm writing some stuff at home and the kids or the wife say, "that's beautiful".
