Why I hate Windows 7 [modified]

I hate it because when I leave my work station I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and then enter to lock. This worked fine on XP, but under Weven there is a (sometimes substantial) pause before the menu comes up and so I fail to lock and walk away leaving it at the mercy of my colleagues.

No use telling me, you have to tell my hands. I'm walking away from my work station I normally have something else in my conscious thoughts having long ago delegated things like locking up to other departments.

Well just installed Windows 7 and Office 2010. After the 83 updates (I started and went home), I wanted to start adding company specific installs. The first bit of software said I did not have permission to add a file to C:\Windows. Now I know that just because I am in the system administrator group (double checked) does not mean a thing to Microsoft. So I tried installing as the local admin. No luck. So I copy the file from another computer and get a message indicating I will need admin rights to copy to C:\Windows, at which time it copies the file without further interaction by me.:mad: It should not be this hard!:mad: I am beginning to think Microsoft is a description of their brains!:mad: Enough rant, back to real work on my Windows XP system. [modified]typo should be XP not NT[/modified]

It's a UAC issue. Even if you are logged in as Administrator, you don't run with full rights unless you explicitly elevate yourself. It's been this way since Vista. :-)

That's not really the way things "should be" done anymore. I'm not one to be a Microsoft apologist, but come on. It's probably the installer that hasn't been updated in a million years. Right clicking and "Run as administrator" would probably allow it to work.

So you dual boot to Win 3.11, copy the files into the Weven sysdir, then reboot to Weven. There's always a simple solution to every problem.

A number of years ago I bought a universal remote control, guaranteed to work with any TV, after my lodger knocked the old one into a cup of coffee whilst asleep on the settee. Got it home, couldn't get it to work with my TV so I phoned up the number to ask them what they were going to do about their guarantee. Woman on the other end asked me the make and model of my TV, then asked me to put the remote control on the phone. I asked her to repeat that. She said there was a little hole in the back of the remote, could I put it against the ear piece and let it listen to something. There came out of the phone a burst of squawking and then the remote worked with my TV.

Try using a Linux (Ubuntu I recommend) Live CD to copy the files. You might also like it :)
If this was not a work related (i.e. they told me what to install) that might be the way to go.
