Have any of you New Yorkers come across these grades before? http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20110614/SMALLBIZ/110619942[^]

Well, who doesn't release stuff like that ? Microsoft software is just as bad. Christian Graus That's called seagull management (or sometimes pigeon management)... Fly in, flap your arms and squawk a lot, crap all over everything and fly out again... by _Damian S_

Restaurants started posted them this (or maybe last year?). But they are pretty common to see, at least where I live and even more and more in Manhattan. I'm not sure how much attention anyone gives them though.

I've seen them while on vacation. I figure if they were unsafe / dangerous, they'd be closed down.

I don't get concerned unless they are a 'D' or worse. 'C' or better is just what gives the establishment its own unique flavor profile.

“Restaurateurs fear the negative stigma of a poor letter grade, and they are not posting because they think a negative grade will hurt their business,” I think that's kinda the point -- if they "fear the negative stigma", maybe they'll try harder.
