What's everyone doing today ?

I am stuck working on a classic ASP site and I am trying to get it set up to run locally. The connection string always seems just one iteration away from working....

got a deadline for production :( now trying to hack and minimize the work as much as possible ;P

I'm studying Laplace transforms and systems of differential equations. Piece of cake, but I have a midterm exam coming up. That and working on some oil field projects and keeping track of an oil rig working on one of the wells.

Organising and trimming old backups of the ASP version of the site, remembering the good old days and thankful they are gone. Mwahaha.

ROTFL !!! This site attaches to an ASP.NET site I wrote, so it already has a session sharing mechanism. I need to set this up and debug it, but you can count on me converting this site to ASP.NET, one page at a time, every time I'm asked to work on something.

Wrote some code this morning to change a unix app using dynamic libs into a windows app so that I can debug it in VS. GDB and the dynamic libs were doing my head in. Just threw some food down then meetings for the afternoon
Funny how our days are split between productivity, and meetings....

Initial stages of UAT for a small Silverlight app, we have the most nitpicking, finnicky, pedantic woman doing the QA testing, she is bloody excellent.

Actually this semester I can slack off a little. Last semester I had advanced geostatistics and a graduate level numerical methods course at the same time I was working about 30 hours a week. Almost killed me, but I passed everything with A's. Just one course and working less seems like vacation in comparison. At least all I'm doing is some math: ordinary differential equations, linear algebra, integral transforms, power series, partial differential equations, nothing fancy and all review. And the oil field stuff I handled on my cell phone while walking back from The University, no big deal. Now, working on ASP stuff, that would make my head hurt!

Working on an integration issue which arises because of transfer of data from our suite to the other one and then back in our suite. The data somehow in the way gets corrupted and the irony is that I don't have the source code of the middleware libraries that are used for integration. So, it is just like trying different options and seeing if those work or not :( And all of this C++ BTW. Visual C++ to be more precise. And yes, I need Coffee now...

I have joined a new company. Will be getting a training on their framework and process workflows today.

Have you worked on it before? I got to get my hands on it in my previous organisation. It is then when I came to know that ASP.NET was a revolutionary change in how we develop web applications. Good luck to you!

Reviewing some nerd's code written for a multithreaded .net application. Life is tough buddy but it gets even nastier when threads start bugging! X|

I'm currently packing away my obsolete books, including Beginning Active Server Pages 3.0. I can't bear to toss them, but I have no further use for them.

Writing unit test plans, rollout plans, and technical specs. Man, doing documents consumes a lot of time. Whats worse is when I think about why Im spending a day for this task when all that needs to be done was remove 2 lines of code.

Yeah, I have a similar pile. No ASP books tho.

I´m writing an OPCServer for communication with Melsec fx series plc's in C#. Also a client .dll suited for beginners(Not DCOM like regular OPCServers).

I'd be happy to send you mine, but the postage would probably be more than the cost of the book. Still, if you want it, let me know and I'll send it off to you. But do let me know before I get it put away, as I have no organizational talent, and it could be months before I find it again.

Trying to split our website down into smaller logical units while separating badly-managed (all 3GB of it:- we've had a Google ranking fetish) content from code as far as possible. Then I need to get our site, which was written in ASP.NET 3 years ago in a very classic ASP fashion to actually build on a local dev machine, so that we no longer code directly on live.

That's interesting... I have a OPCServer at work that's a constant source of headaches, and I'd love to rewrite it. Where can I find information about the beasts? I have no experience with them, or the industry standards they use.

Thanks for the offer. I am pretty determined to not relearn ASP, I intend to convert these pages to ASP.NET as quick as I can. I worked out my connection string issue, when I got the string right, the code dealt illogically with the 'you were not given the stored proc you need to log in' error.

Writing conversion scripts to clean, de-dupe and load guardian names for minors in health care records. Then converting cpt codes for immunizations into cvx codes for immunizations for around 8 million records. In t-sql. Grunt data work but kind of interesting. Tomorrow, an interview for another job.
