this article[^] is about Trent Lott. I'm not a specialist of US internal politics, but from the articles I've read I believe this guy is one of these f*cking "hidden" racists, who is now ready to say anything to save his job. (This rant is NOT about the GOP, I don't know if Lott is representative of the Republican mentality)
I hurt so bad inside I wish you could see the world through my eyes It stays the same I just wanna laugh again
I have no love for Lott, Republicans, Democrats, Thurmond, or anyone else involved in this. But 'fucking "hidden" racists'? That's a bit disturbing, Karl. Ever hear of a guy named Joseph McCarthy?

KaЯl wrote: isn't Segregationism by definition racism? If you're segratating based on race, yes. Which is what you meant, so, yes. What's hidden here though? AFAIK, Lott said "we'd be better off as a country if Thurmond had been elected in '48", not "Damn blacks and minorities! We'd be better off as a country if Thurmond had successfully put them in their place back in '48". KaЯl wrote: The one of the witch hunts ? His anticommunism leaded him not so far from fascism. He was eventually condamned by the US Senate, wasn't he ? Heh, he was a nasty little man who used intimidation and false allegations to ruin his opponents. Communism was one of the issues (and the most successful) that he pounced on to use towards this end. My point was, either we have had plenty of proof of Lott's racism prior to this comment (in which case we've been negligent in making him majority leader), or we have none appart from this comment (in which case it is a pathetic attempt to drive him out for other reasons, using this as a lame excuse, playing on people's fears of, and aversion to, racism).

John Simmons, Karl will you two please stop attacking each other? Exercise some civility, please. Such discussions can be done without bashing each other. Now as for the fate of Trent Lott. I think he should resign. Not because he's racist, but because people say he's racist. More important than reality is perception. And this perception will only hurt the Republican party if Lott stays in his position. For a black man to call a white man a racist is almost certain political death. Whether the accusation is true or not, does not matter. It is perception that is important. Americans have long ago ceased to thoroughly study details and have gravitated toward hype and catchy statements. In actuality, is Trent Lott a racist? Probably not. Lott explicitly praises Strom Thurmond's presidential bid. It could be racist. It could also be an example of generosity to Thurmond's 100th birthday. Lott's one statement has too much ambiguity to determine Lott as being a racist. Even if we bring in Lott's statements from other years, there's very little to indicate that Lott is a racist. That stuff about Lott opposing affirmative action does not indicate racism. I'm Chinese American and I oppose affirmative action. I'm not racist. The reason why people say Lott is racist is because the black victimization mindset forces the interpretation of things that should remain ambiguous. A white man can never contradict a black man. The black man uses victim sympathy to sway listeners. Lott's statements have only made him look worse, not better. Only a minority member can counter another minority member. A white man does not stand a chance. Lott's fate is almost certainly sealed. His prospects are dim.

Like I said, "It may be a crime, but not against humanity." Simply segregating the population is not a crime against humanity. Let's be careful here. We all do it whether we like to admit it or not. We always have and always will segregate ourselves into small groups that get along.

I don't thinks black people are inferior to me, but if someone else does should we throw them in jail? They have just as much right to think that way as I have to think otherwise. Karl thinks its a crime against humanity to even express that segregation is ok. Are we going to have the thought police come knocking on everyone's door now? We all have our likes and dislikes. We all self-segregate when we hang out with certain people and exclude others. Segregation is not right, but I don't believe it is a crime against humanity. Anna-Jayne Metcalfe wrote: A crime against people is a crime against humanity. We're all God's children. So if little Johnny steals a candy bar from a classmate we should try him in the Hauge (sp?) for crimes against all people? Your idea is ludicrous from an Earthly standpoint. If we look at it spiritually I can see your point. When we commit a crime we are sinning and rejecting God. We also hurt the person or people we commit the crime against and many others may be affected as well. But our system does not punish evil doers on the same scale as God does.
