Due to the fact that all vista does in my house is sit in a corner and act as a dukebox for personal music player ( cant accuse me of not testing this one ) I havent had much chance to complain about it. But now at last I get to be trendy and join in. Vista's only other job is to charge the mp3 players for personal use and testing, basically a couple of different generation apple things and a walkman mp3 player. Lately vista has decided that the ipod shuffle it has been charging for a few years now is an unrecognisable piece of hardware. This is starting to happen on a regular basis. The latest being it couldn't recognise it on booting this morning after it spent yesterday afternoon charging it. Fiddling with a few wires ( connecting it to the internet for a while ) fixes it it for a bit. Vista is crap. See trendy now and not at all late.

I have a small feeling, that "Trendy" and "Vista" are not compatible. Fashion is a brief candle; you will have to start criticizing the new Windows 8 UI in order to be remotely trendy.

I don't like Vista at all, but...

doesn't this lead to perhaps think you have a bad cable as well? Note: It's Monday morning, it's going to be a beautiful day here in Calgary, and I'm stuck at work with no excuse to get out today, so I'm likely a bit "nit-picky" this morning. Cheers..
I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

If fiddling with wires fixes the problem it's not the OS, but either the cable or one of the plugs that's failing. Unfortunately the solder joints in your ipod are the most likely failure point (due to the plug/unplug action applying stress to the socket).

The cable and the socket on your computer also crap made as cheaply as possible. The ipod jack fails first since it's plugged much more often than the PC socket as well as being smaller (big sockets can take more stain), while the cable is designed to be flexible.
