Yesterday I talked to an old friend and found out that he had kidney failure. Why people could easily had this? I remember somewhere earlier this year I got a friend who passed away because of this too. Btw, I asked him if caffeine could be possible causing this (considering I could take > 400 mg of caffeine / day). He answered not initially, it's more because of a poor intake of fluids. Anyway, is there anyone here had this? and how do you survive with this?

You go on dialysis, which lasts up to about 10 years before it ceases to be an option, while you wait for a kidney transplant. It's insidious.

I haven't had this, but have had over 30 kidney stones in the last decade, I wouldn't be surprised if I had further problems at some point. It started due to too much sodas and not enough water. And continues to be the same problem. I occasionally forget myself and have to many Cokes and sure enough, ouch...

Programming is a race between programmers trying to build bigger and better idiot proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots, so far... the universe is winning. A crisis on your part does not constitute one on mine.

Yeah haemodialysis, bad news for most people. And I can't believe portable haemodialysis' that expensive (around US$30.000?)

Well, here in Australia it's supplied for you... but yes, I believe it's exy... It does give you a modicum of freedom though - you can live your life during the day and go on the machine at night... Again, only while you wait for a new kidney... Be sure to tell your loved ones that you want to have your organs donated when you die. Don't take them to heaven - heaven doesn't need them!!

Great. Now I've got visions of visiting someone's house where their model train set is "augmented" with things removed from their body. "The quarry's made up of my kidney stones, and the toxic waste from the factory is from when I had bronchitis!"

I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!

... as the owner of said model trainset, an idea gains momentum...
