What sort of things have you done on your last day on a job?

In my farewell speech at a morning tea in front of the whole unit, I said "I'd like to say it's been a pleasure working here. I'd like to, but quite frankly it hasn't. I've worked with some awesome people, and I've worked with some complete tossers" at which point I looked straight at the unit manager. Good times!!

I am boring. I always try to make sure that I do a handover that leaves me in a place where people won't hate me, and will feel like they can ask me if something comes up where I could help. My boss, on the other hand, was always dead set against our dress policy where I worked, so he showed up to his last day in old clothes that he'd obviously painted the house in ( and to the farewell lunch from there ). That's the extent to which I can remember anyone ever acting up on their last day at work. I've also not really ever left a job where I had a depth of hard feelings, so I guess that helps, too.

A friend of mine from college was asked by his supervisor to change the access code to the computer room before he left on his last day. :doh: He was going to add a scheduled program called "hippity, hop" to the main server which he had earlier spread rumors about being a detected virus that deleted files for every "hippity hop" that was printed on the console screen :laugh:

First Code Project is slow as heck and then you post this. Not planning anything are you? :~ As for me, nothing special. Though when my last boss quit (after I quit), I was shown pictures of what they did to the poor bastard. One day, they covered EVERYTHING in his office with foil. Another day, they got every plant in the building and put it in his office. :laugh:

The night before there'd been a major going away party that a number of us had gotten somewhat inebriated at. So I sent an email to everyone who had attended, thanking them for the experience of working with them and for the good times we'd shared, and assuring them that I was going to tell our VP in the corner office that the really lousy work they were doing today was all my fault, and they shouldn't be blamed for it. . .
The 3-legged stool of understanding is held up by history, languages, and mathematics. Equipped with these three you can learn anything you want to learn. But if you lack any one of them you are just another ignorant peasant with dung on your boots. R. A. H.

Something you'r not telling us? My best was when I left the metropolitan police (many, many years ago) where I vaguely remember returning to my desk after lunch celebrations, with a pint glass containing Gin and tonic and replaced the telephone list with a version with 'spell checked' names on it, before staggering back to the pub... The resulting phone list had, for example, for every Analyst Programmer "Anal Probe" Well, at the time, I thought it was hilarious!

A long time ago, in a town far away... A co-worker, but not one I knew well or worked on the same projects with, appeared at my local pub on a Friday night with his wife, and they both proceeded to get completely plastered. Over a chat with these drunken folks - and the wife and I were also pretty well gone - he proceeded to bring up the subject of a "sex diary" they had kept for years. The idea being that they recorded each and every event and when it happened so that he couldn't say "well I haven't had such-and-such for ages" because she could turn to the appropriate page and deny him his pleasure. We tried hard to ignore this (as you would) but when she returned from the Ladies he insisted she back this up. Worse, later we all ended up at their house after the pub shut and he kept trying to get it and show us - over his wife and our strong refusals. The problem was, I had to work in the same office as this guy, and he was a bit of a pillock. It was seriously difficult not to let this info out, but I managed it for about five years until I left the company. Of course, on my last day we went for drinks, and regrettably I could not longer keep the salacious info to myself... I understand he changed jobs a few months after me.

Finishing up a job some years back, a manager came over with an urgent task about two hours before I was due to leave. My response, "No, and if you are not happy, then fire me!"

Nothing, quite boring actually. And it just happens that this Thursday will be my last day at my current job due to retrenchment. I'm going to work for another company, in the same building, just across the hall, so I'll be seeing my ex-colleagues daily. Still have lots to do to (documentation, etc). I think I've done enough pranks while I've been here though :)

...after storming through the front gates in something with gun racks, using the boss' car as firing practice, sweet talking the lady in HR to give you access to the staff files "just in case", bribing the IT staff for a "backup" account and password that happens to have root access, possibly stealing the boss' secretary away for a farewell how-ya-doin', then tearing the boss a new one in front of staff and colleagues. Anything less and we disown you.

Well, when we agreed via a shouting match that the company would eventually go down in flames because the boss was an ego-maniacal control freak with a tenuous grasp on reality, they did call the cops to escort me out. Is that good enough? :)

I was once given the usual send off, leaving card, small gift, bit of a nice speech, everyone stood around wanting to get back to work. Then I announced that I was actually stopping. When I did leave some time later I didn't get any of that again.
