It appears that he has realised that his puny rep only allows him to inflict -2, so it now appears if he thinks you have downvoted him he is going through your recent messages and downvoting 6 or 7 at a time in order to inflict a heavier dent. I tried to do the same to him but you bastards appear to have already maxed out his maximum down-vote allowance :(
So if I vote five for a bunch of his posts, you'll be able to one-vote him again. Always happy to help...
Would a bunch of fives be appropriate?

Well his 7 down-votes inflicted a grand total of -14, still less than one of my downvotes will do to him.

Let's not have voting wars. I've fixed the problem the correct way.

I'd say quite the opposite. Without posting crap here he'll be much more productive.

Why are votes and reputation points such a big deal? IMHO, it's infantile to obsess over it so much.

I recently read this[^]. Here is the interesting bit: "Flame wars are not surprising; they are one of the most reliable features of mailing list practice. If you assume a piece of software is for what it does, rather than what its designer's stated goals were, then mailing list software is, among other things, a tool for creating and sustaining heated argument." So, you could say that an internet forum is a tool for creating trolls, right?

They are not you are right. Well, I think the ones earned by having articles published are. The point is not with the points/repbut the fact he tried to game it.
Somebody should suggest to comrade General Secretary that he stops the concept of reputation points in Lounge and SB, like they do in Codeguru. Reputation should be earned from answering questions and writing articles etc. not from posting jokes.

Why? Is the lounge not to your liking? Does it not offer a service? I suggest you try posting that in the GIT forum, they like the rep points there.
