Google has the maps, search data and its vans also collected WiFi data when filming in the UK. The only information that Facebook has is 'work was shite, I fancy a curry'.

Google's map data is open-access, so Facebook has that too... And Facebook has your credit card so you can buy premium-quality pixels from Zynga games. I'd mention their mobile check-ins, integration with half of the Internet, and a hundred other things, but Google+ will inevitably have all of that too. I'll give you the search data, though... That's a big advantage to the G-men.

not yet, waiting on my invite from a programmer friend who is in already. I guess the techie crowd jumped in it hard and Google closed invites down due to overload or some such... lol now that could be good(they are going careful to get it working right before opening up to the masses), or bad( they have no clue what they are doing and couldn't handle a couple thousand invites.)

Programming is a race between programmers trying to build bigger and better idiot proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots, so far... the universe is winning. Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow.

Don't forget Friendster. Social networks seem to be following a pretty reliable cycle... 0) New social network comes along 1) High School and College students join up to keep connected with their friends 2) Site grows, adding more features to drag more of those social circles in 3) Parents start to take note, and join up to stay connected to their kids 4) Kids forget that their parents are there, and share way too much information, leading to lots of trouble 5) The presence of the parents makes the social network cease to be "cool" 6) Kids start looking for a new place to hang out, to get away from their parents 7) Goto 0 Facebook is somewhere between steps 5 and 6 right now... If Google+ pans out, it'll probably be the next in line. The difference is that the "circles" thing has the potential to break the cycle at #4 by keeping the parents separate from the friends. We'll just have to see how it pans out.

From what I hear, they cut off invites for now. I'm sure once it opens up, there'll be people all over the place (Including here) giving away their extra invites, just like with GMail.

They couldn't even think of a tenth? I can think of ten reasons why getting kicked in the ball-sac is better than Facebook.

you forget though, the mere existence of their parents on the site makes it not cool. even if they are relegated to a special circle they are still there. and kids hate liking things their parents like. i think g+ will follow the same cycle.
