Has anyone tried the new Google+ service? Anyone got any invites for it? Edit: Thanks for the invite guys, sorted now. Aside from the underlying privacy concerns, I never joined facebook as I didn't like the lack of ability to distinguish between friends and colleagues - or at least what they saw! But Google+ seems to address this problem quite nicely. Anyone tried it? Is it any good? Sadly its getting to a point where people look at you kind of funny when you tell them youre not on facebook! I'm hoping Google+ gives me a bit more control of my data allowing me to come out of my leper like social state :)

So in other words, you're fishing for an invite... like myself, just putting it out there. No longer soliciting, thanks. ;)

Well, create 2 facebook account one for friends and one for colleagues, problem solved... just kidding I know this is the reason I will never accept any requests from my family members, there is a phone for them, just ferinds on social networking, not even colleagues if they are not friends.

But the problem is meanwhile google+ will be at the level of facebook, facebook will implement this and you will not find all your friends using google+. so this will not change anything...

I figure Google already know everything there is to know about me! :) yes I considered creating several facebook accounts but I just didn't like the everything public by default approach. I was hoping facebook was a fad that would pass - like myspace, etc. but it seems to be sticking! To be honest I'm not sure G+ will be any better but at least I'll be in it from the start rather than being forced to join :)

On G+, your information photos and things you post are yours, way different than facebook! You could separate friends an colleagues in facebook through the use of a not too enforced feature called Lists, which is the rule of thumb in G+, automatically and nicely forcing you to control what you share, I like that! The 2 best things about G+...I won't ever convince my mother to change now that she starts knowing how Facebook is used and...I won't ever convince my mother to change now that she starts knowing how Facebook is used  I also have some invites still, just send a message with contact =D

Actually that does sound much better! Didn't realise FB had this kind of control already - I'll keep that in mind if I'm forced down the FB route!

If there is a network for your workplace and coworkers have declared it, they are grouped automatically. You can also always create groups of people and limit which groups you want to see from the left pane. I've also got my profile quite locked down - almost no public access (just enough to find me; if you don't know me by my picture bug off), networks have almost no access (and even then, just my work network), and bunch of other stuff - more locked down than Facebook's recommended most locked down policy. Facebook is a gaping hole by default, but it can be improved if you have the impetus to do so.

Where did this myth originate? You've been able to do this on Facebook for ages. It's not as obvious as G+ makes it, but the functionaility is there.

When I looked originally I certainly couldn't see any such option, but granted it was many years ago. Or at least if the option was there it wasn't obvious to me.

Yes, but the problem as far as I see it is that you have to keep reviewing your privacy. I wouldn't mind doing it once. The problem is whenever they add new features they seem to be on by default. I just hope Google will be better at this (especially given the abuse they got for their Buzz rollout).

As you are now experiencing, the handy feature is the organization of it ( people whom are ocd and orderly will love that feature). you only want to talk to workmates? done, what about close friends ONLY knowing you are pregnant? done, the circles are quite handy. You can also drag n drop "people" into the circles you created. Another thing you can do that the other social media don't is that you can drag images from desktop into your profile. There is still the odd bug, but it's not as sketchie as FB. Integration is done well, if you login to your mail, you are in google+ as well for example. the integration is not a " in your face" thing ether. so far, I like it.

yeah, its quite a neat implementation! I like the drag drop nature - seems to work very well. already noticed some things on by default though, for example if I add someone to a circle it lists them publically. granted they are very up-front about this and its very easy to permanently disable the feature. initial impressions, quite good! the app for my android looks quite good too. not sure about the auto-upload my photos feature though!
