Weekend Plans?

What is everyone's weekend plans? I'm looking at a townhouse tonight. Tomorrow I'm bring my car in for brake work, possibly trying a combat shoot, then meeting up with my friend and his friend that is home from the Army for the weekend. Sunday, hopefully doing music all day, maybe work on my stand up routine for next Tuesday.

work.. servers badly in need of some updates and defrags among other maintenance issues. things that haven't been done in a few years. Since I am the defacto IT department due to my boss quitting and the bigger boss dragging his feet on a decision. It falls to me to do it. and keep up with programming, and fix pcs out in the company and telephones and billing and ordering crap and and and and and and and .. you get the picture. I'm giving him about another week then we gonna have a talk. Either make me the official IT director and hire me some help, or get me a new boss and let me go back to 100% writing code. yeah yeah I know I could put off some of the maintenance crap just like the last guy(in hopes of the new boss doing it), but it really needs doing and I don't know how long I'll be stuck with day to day hassles because of this mess I got stuck with. Sure I am going to talk to him in a week, but what am I going to do if they continue to drag feet, quit? I got 3 kids to feed and few job prospects out there right now with my level of experience.
Programming is a race between programmers trying to build bigger and better idiot proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots, so far... the universe is winning. Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm at a larger place with an IT department of 2. 2 pointless people. I've been trying to clean up my DB box today, waiting until 4pm to do the bigger stuff for it.

our IT department was 2. now its one. The boss handled the networking support stuff and I wrote code handled software issues. Now hes gone its just me. The company is fairly good sized but we are not a software house or anything such, so when things are going ok we don't need a huge IT department. That being said, I have discovered a LOT of stuff the last guy just was patching with duct tape instead of fixing. I'm spending a few many hours just attempting to keep the patches going because with only me, there is absolutely no time to fix what he SHOULD have. I need that other person to take some load off, whether that person is above me or below me in ranking at this point I care not. Just get me some damned help....... There are only so many hours in the day.

I'm working. I have a practical skills test for employment, and loads of work on my new venture, a betting advice web site, that we hope to finalise and launch next week. In case you are wondering, my partner is a data analyst, and bases advice on a combination of trends in horse, jockey, trainer, course, season, weather, etc. and combinations of those factors, over thousands of races. We don't give any certain bets, but we will say when the overall combination of factors and trends is too chaotic to give any tips at all.

I'm hoping for a quiet weekend, floating in my lady's pool in Golden Valley, and helping to drown her two dogs. After being awakened at 6 AM last Saturday for a failed substation transformer and working 12 - 18 hours a day since, I'm ready for a swim, a drink or 12, and a nap.

Just a figure of speech - they love to play in the water, especially diving to the bottom to pick up toys. :-D

Well, I *was* going to do yard work, get a wood chipper and clean up 20 years of debris. But, Friday 4pm, I was informed that perhaps there was a problem with the last build. :~ There is. Saturday is being spent tracking down a registry issue.
