I think your post should have been titled "anti-christian jerks". I'm not very religious myself, but I am constantly amazed at the level of antipathy, hate and intolerance displayed by the western world at the source of its own moral underpinnings. I can understand that the Islamic world might have such feelings, but I fail to understand the source of those feelings within our own culture. We have gone far past any sane interpretation of "separation of church and state" and are now firmly in the "Death to any moral authority competing with the moral authority of the state" phase of things. It is very much a cultural civil war of sorts. God, as usual, is on my side. :) "Any clod can have the facts, but having opinions is an art." Charles McCabe, San Francisco Chronicle

Did you read just the beginning of the article? The main part is about two people who are heavily against the commercialization of Christmas. I like their sign, I really like it. and Christmas celebrations are about 4000 years old - the "birth of Christ" has been modeled onto existing holidays, like many other christian holidays.

I was simply trying to say that if we would celebrate holidays for christian purposes, Easter would be the most important.

From the article: > Mrs. Williams [...] said she has good memories of the Christmases she had > as a child. But the growing commercialism of the season and its Christian > exclusivity had long troubled her. Could it be instead, oh, I dunno, because she used to see Christmas through the eyes of a child, but now that she's an adult, her perception has changed? Welcome to the real world. BTW, most Jews I know (I'm by definition catholic myself) are wondering exactly *who* is getting offended by the "Christmas" references, and agree that it's incredibly lame to change something like "the spirit of Christmas" to "the spirit of giving" or the "holiday tree". Political correctness be damned, that is what gets me

Gluttony. Envy. Insincerity. Greed. So, you don't appreciate truth in advertising? As a holdiay, Christmas has lost most/all of it's original meaning. The really funny part of the whole un-christianizing of Christmas is that only Christians should be celebrating it. Muslims don't, Jews don't, atheists don't. Yet, everyone wants to change it to something non-secular and more commercial. Imagine how silly some of the traditional songs would sound if "Christmas" was replaced by "holiday". "I'm dreaming of a white Holiday..." - this could even imply on racist views if sung at any time other than December. "Oh Holiday tree, oh Holiday tree..." - good. Now we can include Elm, Oak, and Ash in with those peskyy pine trees. I think many of other trees are discriminated against during the "Holiday" season, so this can only be seen as a good thing. And what's with that totally arbitrary and made-up holiday called Kwanza? I mean seriously, what the FUCK is that all about? let's talk about self-serving... The Christmas season sucks, and EVERYBODY that does or doesn't celebtrate it is at fault. I mostly agree, Christmas is now just an other occasion to eat and drink, and making business

They do have a point, but the reason they hate christmas is not just because of the commercialism, etc. Its also because Santa is an overweight heterosexual white guy.
