I've never attended a non-Mallu-Indian wedding, but getting small liquor bottles (assuming they aren't empty) sounds nice. :-D

Well, the longest mallu weddings would still be under 2 hours. It's the pre-wedding and post-wedding drunken nights that make it interesting for people.

Hello all, Introductory note: yes, which community would be better than ours to ask about that? Well, as most of you will know I'm getting married (and yes my partner knows it) and we are discussing about which kind of presents give to the audience... Now we are thinking on small liquor bottels, letter openers (I'm afraid that blood will appear), chocolate cigars... What a privileged :bob:ian mind would recommend? And please, avoid BACON and CListCtrl please ;) Thank you! :rose:

How about a USB stick holding photos of the happy couple, the wedding breakfast venue, the Church (if any) blah, blah, blah. Or even small disposable cameras.

If you are one of my relatives, you would think socks are a good present to give. You would unfortunately be wrong. Liquid nitrogen? Or maybe give your guests rubber gloves and bouncy balls, without explanation. Then later bring out a container of liquid nitrogen and your guests will have balls to the wall fun. Disclaimer: make all your guests sign a disclaimer before getting near the liquid nitrogen.

Small disposable cameras would be awesome fun, especially once the liquor began to flow. The last wedding I attended they did a similar thing and also had a chalkboard for guests to write a message on, then they would take a photo of them with the message then wipe the board. The happy couple didn't get a lot of the messages until their honeymoon when the photo album was ready, photos ordered chronologically... they started with messages like "We always knew!" and "Just married!" and ended with... well... nothing that needs to be repeated :) But very, very enjoyable for everyone.

Me think, as much as it sounds fun, don't give out booze. Chocolate cigars is nice. At the last wedding I was invited, we received bottle stoppers (the little things to close a wine bottle when you loose the cork (or the screwcap)... Don't forget that those gifts will end up in the trash 80% of the time, or forgotten at the reception hall ... so don't spend to much on them.

Gosh, Joan, good luck. And don't forget to put together a bride's emergency kit. I know which presents you mean; you mean those little trinkets the wedding party gets, right? Bridesmaid gifts and groomsman gifts. I've seen some interesting varieties; money clip, a mug with the wedding date and bride and groom initials, I think for you something like this, should get you thinking in the right direction: http://www.robotliving.com/diy-robot/tiny-robots/[^] With the date carved on it, of course. Great idea for the USB, especially with at least one the newlyweds being a developper! :) I've been to a wedding where there was a disposable camera on every table and everyone of them had to be fully used and they collected them afterwards. That's where they got their best pictures for the dinner chapter of their wedding pictures album.

I was HollyHooo but got tired of it and Sebastien was taken.

Maybe our friends and family are cheap, or traditions different but I've never received a gift at a wedding that I can remember of. I'm sure I have bunch of personalized napkins, candlesticks and rotten mints in a box somewhere. Every wedding I attended was for people I cared for and I have good memories of, but none of them I can remember the gift (if any) I got from. I do remember that every friend/family member's wedding I attended took the time to come and chat, between the meal and the party and that meant a whole lot more. Now if my invitation just got delayed in the mail because of the Canada Post strike/lockout, forget everything I said and you should definitely give plasma TVs! ;) Seriously congratulations to the both of you and I wish you all the best. For me it will be in the fall (after 17 years... it will be weird to reset the anniversary counter!)

I had a side business for a few years as a Humanist celebrant. Most of what I did were weddings. Typically, actual gifts are reserved for members of the wedding party: the groomsmen, bridesmaids and ushers. Guests at the reception get instead a kind of "party favor" bag. Common items include candy, balloons and small jars of bubbles. You can get M&Ms custom printed, or get boxes of mints with custom packaging. Get some photos done a few weeks before the wedding, and have postcards printed up with the names, date, location, etc. on the back. If you are doing a theme wedding, include items that match the theme: paper crowns if you are doing a Renaissance wedding, plastic leis if it is Hawaiian or tropical. Prepare a web page for the wedding to serve as an on-line photo album. Put disposable digital cameras on the tables, and ask that the guests use them and leave them behind. Go through the pictures, take the best ones, and post them to your site.

Go with chocolate, it's a never fail. I think chocolate cigars for the men is a good idea and for the ladies... ... well chocolate basically. Just make sure it is a high cocoa content and in shiny wrappers. Oh, and good luck. Remember to give your husband [to be] a glimmer of hope that after the wedding he will retain some free will. We know he won't have any, but at least let him think he will.:rose:

My cousin and his wife gave everyone a CD of their favourite songs. It's a great album, and it reminds me of them, and a great day, when I listen to it. Let's just ignore the whole piracy aspect to this... Now when I got married, I didn't give anyone anything - I paid for their booze all night, what more do they want?!
