4 Hours of interview?

From this post[^], the guy mentioned about four-hour interview. Is that true? 4 hours? Last time I got interviewed from MS guy, it only took 30 - 45 mins. I wonder what I'm gonna do with that lengthy interview. :omg:
i've had 4 hour interviews before. i've never got a job after a 4 hour interview, though... it really shouldn't take more than an hour or two to tell if someone can do the job or not. if you go more than that, you're just wasting everybody's time. too many people want to get involved, too much repetition, the questions turn absurd, etc.. it's all about the company's ego, at that point.

The last time I interviewed they flew me from Austin to New Orleans, met me at Moisant, put me up in a nice hotel, took me to dinner, then the next day it was a 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM series of interviews with breakfast and lunch interviews. After the dinner, with a few beers and crawfish, I didn't really care if they made an offer or not. They did offer me a job on the spot, though, right before getting me back to the airport to go back to Austin.

MS Interviews usually take up to 6 hours. Shorter interview means they have rejected you. I think time flies by if you have a good coding problem. Sometimes, even 4 hour interview is short in that case.

My first job interview (I was 22) was 4 hours long. It was a process by which I interviewed with several departments within the company. They were determining my place as much as if they wanted me. Some of the process included junior folks interviewing me too, as a part of their training. I interviewed with high level GUI type folks, network folks, embedded programmers, testers, etc. I found out later that my level of interest in their different questions placed me in my department (worked on a low level embedded C). ============= I left after 2 years, got a M.S., worked 2 other jobs, and then considered going back. I was disappointed on return to find the interview was only 2 hours. I eventually turned down their offer after that time (for reasons other than the interview process :rolleyes: )

I interviewed at Microsoft in 2002 and it was a 9am to 6pm interview. 1hr interview with 9 people. Lunch was also an interview. Except that the lunch interviewer was Nick Hodapp, a good mate of mine, so it was a pretty casual interview ;)

The last time I had an interview anywhere close to that long (it was about 6 hours, I think), two hours after I got home the hiring manager called to tell me that they're sending me an offer. That was in July. I got the letter in December. :sigh:

when they take you into the pristine and ultra clean lab with all the C"sharp" instruments.. Just ponder one thing... did they say "Unix" developer, or "Enunich" developer? (yes I know, MS interview. but I couldn't resist).

I had a whole day interview, with about 50 other, back in 1991 when I got my first Cobol programming job with Norwich Union(now Aviva). The trick part was the lunch together when ereryone started to relax. I saw candidate after candidate dropping out as they made silly remarks at the lunch table. We also had an IQ test(I don't do well at these generally) and the paper I was given had all the answers written on it. I raised my hand to point out that my paper had the answers on it and was quietly told to carry on by the examiner - so I either passed the honesty test or the IQ test was meaningless. I got the job. I remember reading somewhere that within 3 seconds of you walking through the interview room door a decision is made on if you have the job...

I think a four hour interview is a waste of everyone's time. Several small interviews with lots of people are also a waste of time. Nevertheless; the best way I can suggest to get through it is to remember that you've done lots of things for four hours at a pop and managed them. Athletic events, sitting in a bar, religious services, family gatherings, posting at CP, waiting in line for star wars,... whatever.
