Just spent a week in Tossa de mar, on the Spanish Costa Brava. And I was surprised, pleasantly. Its not full of English louts, aparently they have all gone to Lorret de mar, and Tossa, with its medieval walled town, is now more Continental. It also has surprisingly good cheap food; 12.50 euro menu for three courses (mussels, squid, salad, etc followed by fresh whole fish, lamb etc and desert plus 1/4 liter of wine). And that was in a seafront restaurant, back in the town the menus are even cheaper. Is also a particularly attractive part of Catalunya, and easy to get to with Girona and Barcelona airports being close, and just off the motorway system that comes from France.

Good to know. If I jump into my car now, I could be there by tomorrow morning :)

Yes, I have heard its grim, hence my total surprise by how nice Tossa was. Really, the kind of place you could go back to many times. :)
