Somebody in Arkansas decided to use some special forms of GPS coordinates. (See this official document at [http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/park-finder/search.aspx?search=history_museums_exhibits]). For example, the Arkansas Post Museum has a GPS location of 34° 1.9’ 56.5” N / 91° 22.3’ 21.2” W. I don't have a problem with that, only that I don't feel good looking at the coordinates with decimals not just in the second part, but in the minute part. Why? 34° 1.9’ 56.5” can simply be 34° 2’ 50.5”. I decided to test Google's ability on this issue. I fired up Google Maps, and put the coordinates in. The search result came to show that the place is in Cancún, Mexico. Ha! Try that in Bing map, the result is "There were no results for your search." It suggested me to "RETRY YOUR QUERY." Come on! Surely there are programmers out there who can write a program to read that. And Google pays people well! By the way, the coordinates given by the Arkansas web site are not accurate. This site: [http://www.gpsbasecamp.com/state-parks/Arkansas] gives more accurate GPS coordinates, and they are in "good" format.

From just a quick glance, it looks like the minutes should be truncated. 34° 1.9’ ~= 34° 1’ 56.5” 91° 22.3’ ~= 91° 22’ 21.2 It should show the decimal in only the finest precision.

I think that was his point.

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

Maybe, but then he said this

              34° 1.9’ 56.5” can simply be 34° 2’ 50.5”

He rounded up the minute and then subtracted the the .1 minutes (6 seconds) that he rounded up from the seconds.
