UK customs types recently intercepted cocaine on a yacht in Southampton. Estimated street value of £300 million. It was also described as exceptionally pure by street standards. Now if the country's economy is FUBAR and they're sitting on cocaine that could easily be cut down to a value of around half a billion...

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

After all, when it comes to money, screw morality! It would be seriously interesting to see the results of an ecconomy whose workers were fueled by cocaine. After all, the leaf itself was used by Columbian miners to work harder. :)

I have never and never will claim that the Hungarians are productive. Except in maths, physics, economics. They are, per capita, one of the most successful countries for Nobel Laureates.

A new parliamentary report recommends legalising the cultivation and consumption of cannabis in France.[^] Of course its going to be grown in France, I wonder if they will apply Appelation status to it... Anyway, they are quite keen on the 1.4 billion euros tax they can raise off its consumption. But wait, what's the effect on other tax revenues going to be with 6 million people more or less permantly stoned? Surely productivity is going to slump resulting in a greater loos of revenue? Perhaps they should legalise coaine instead, perhaps even give it to the workers in factories free. Should see GDP go up by a good 20%. :) Of course the fact your heart packs up at about 60 from cocaine use brings another benefit. No more pensions crisis!

Yeah but the crime rate would probably decrease. There's always a tradeoff.

There'll also be a corresponding tax revenue increase due to a greater consumption of munchies. That should offset the productivity losses, I'd think.

I also won’t be surprised if two thirds of them are Americans with some Hungarian heritage. The Europeans tends to consider their American sprouts as Americans if they screw up and “European descendants” if they create something significant. I find this pretty unfear despite the fact I’m also European.

Considering the fact that with the exactly same population as UK and without the US investments they have bigger GDP this makes them pretty clever guys IMHO. Of course I could be wrong, I know only one French and this one was a turd. :)

In this case I stand corrected. And by the way I have a colleague from a Hungarian descent and he is indecently smart, it’s a pleasure to work with him.

I believe the right term in this case is “penny stocks”.

Are you saying that there's no U.S. investment in France? I remember reading something recently that said that U.S. investment is responsible for about 1 out of every 4 jobs created in France since the early 1990's.
