A new parliamentary report recommends legalising the cultivation and consumption of cannabis in France.[^] Of course its going to be grown in France, I wonder if they will apply Appelation status to it... Anyway, they are quite keen on the 1.4 billion euros tax they can raise off its consumption. But wait, what's the effect on other tax revenues going to be with 6 million people more or less permantly stoned? Surely productivity is going to slump resulting in a greater loos of revenue? Perhaps they should legalise coaine instead, perhaps even give it to the workers in factories free. Should see GDP go up by a good 20%. :) Of course the fact your heart packs up at about 60 from cocaine use brings another benefit. No more pensions crisis!

Probably nothing. I've known a lot of pot heads. The ones who want to smoke and in large quantities are already doing so. This will just keep them from spending time in jail if they are caught doing what they would anyway.

This reminds me a conversation from this morning with a guy working in our building. We were on the parking lot around the smoking area staring at my boss’ bright new Maserati. Me: “Probably this model is not very successful” He: “Huh??” Me: “The people don’t drive them much around here…”

Like the supermarket guy who told me they were out of Henrew National salami because it wasn't popular. Then how did they sell out?

Because you think that 6 million more will now be stoned all the time because it is legal?

Interesting that it's happening as the Dutch are moving in the other direction. When I liven in Holland they used to complain about the Belgians coming over to Maastricht to buy pot now I guess they'll just have to head south!

I also won’t be surprised if two thirds of them are Americans with some Hungarian heritage. The Europeans tends to consider their American sprouts as Americans if they screw up and “European descendants” if they create something significant. I find this pretty unfear despite the fact I’m also European.

And Americans describe themselves as 'Greek Americans' or 'African Americans'.What tosh. Am I a 'French, Celtic, Saxon, Swedish Englishman'? :)

There's nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage. I don't think of myself as a hyphenated American at all but I am proud of the fact that my ancestors fought in the American Revolution - on both sides. ;) It seems to me that the hyphenation dies out about 3rd generation and is gone by fifth, with the exception of "African-American," which has nothing to do with where one's ancestors came from and everything to do with skin color.

After all, when it comes to money, screw morality! It would be seriously interesting to see the results of an ecconomy whose workers were fueled by cocaine. After all, the leaf itself was used by Columbian miners to work harder. :)

Quite true, tell me, if you know, what is the effect long term in a company/office of widespread cocaine use?
