I worked 11.2 hours yesterday. I usually average 9-10 hours a day and only get paid for 8...go figure. How many hours a day do you work on average?

just over 8. Stopping exactly when the clock says to and forgetting what you were working on instead of going a few minutes to get something wrapped up is rather wasteful. Besides which, when I'm in the middle of a coding cycle I tend to be only vaguely aware of the time.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius

I have 'informal' flexi. There are two ways to approach it in my mind; 1. You have required hours and if more is needed they pay you for them. 2. You have required hours and if more are required then you can do less when they are not (formal or otherwise). I would not work for a company that only took and didn't give.

Yes, I agree. I'm happier with the second because we all know that problems don't work a perfect 9-5, but I still like to have a limit on how many hours I spend working, to make sure I don't over-do it if things are a bit hard.

I should do 8 hours 24 a day, but usually it makes more. I'm excluding 1.30 hours comuting every day...

I am supposed to be here for 7 hours 24 minutes a day. I am not sure how much of that can be counted as work.

Again, it is part time (I suppose there are other countries where it is allowed as well). :)

There's a vicious rumor going around that you only work part time. Is this true? That's just absurd. Oh, and I'd like to move to Italy too, can I come and stay with you? It's you or Silvio Berlusconi, from what I hear he throws better parties, but is a bit of a slob.

6 hours, to the minute. Today's the first day I didn't arrive exactly on the hour, just moved to my new apartment and misjudged the time it would take to get here, walked in a whole minute late. Although school starts back up soon and I'll be down to 8-12 hours a week (plus maybe a second job TAing the intro C++ class).

I'm paid for 12 hours a day, but usually do 15, and occassionally 18, sometimes more if there are problems. My longest single stint was 36 hours.........i was fubar by the end of it, and don't remember my head touching the pillow.

I put in 9 to 10 hours a day at the office; anything that requires actual concentration and deep thought I do offsite, after hours, as the office is a madhouse. That's okay; being salaried, I can work all the free overtime I want! :sigh:

if I know a company has a policy to not pay overtime ( and there are some here in Canada), I only work the 8hrs. if they want to be that way, they have to offer up the incentive.

Yes, I believe I'm working part time. You should choose between me and Silvio:

                                  • Silvio is a hard worker, I'm part time.
                                  • Silvio, I believe, doesn't take personally care about his (many) children, I am an (almost) full time daddy for my two little beasts.
                                  • Silvio sees a lot of beautiful girls while, I, unfortunately have to deal with a lot of ugly, elderly, male folks.

So it's up to you ('If I could, you know I would' choose 'money for nothing and chicks for free'). :-D

If it's true your boss is a genious and I want to meet him. Usually what is almost impossible is that workers work the hours they are paid for. Redoing what you where doing bad in the morning because you did not remember what you did yesterday should count as work? or working knowing that you are not concentrated and should probably be better to do a pause and work later (but you don't do it because you prefer to be at home a 5pm)? Unfortunatelly there are many cheats and good people have to pay for mistakes of others.
