Bach CD-set acquired
-
I figured I'd treat myself with a christmas gift today, so I bought a Bach CD-set containing Violin Concertos (BWV 1041-1043) and Brandenburg Concertos (BWV 1046-1051). I've been looking for it for quite some time, and I found it! Yay! (I've a soft spot for the Brandenburg concertos, especially #3). I tried, in vain, to make my nephews appreciate classical music such as Bach. The response I got was "What's this crap? It's not metal!". I think I'll wait 10 years until I play this for them again. :) -- Only in a world this shitty could you even try to say these were innocent people and keep a straight face.

Brandenburg Concertos, rock!!! I used to listen to them every morning to get the day started in college If you can find it, there is a great Glenn Gould CD of him playing the Goldberg Variations live in Salzburg (~1958 I think). I personally thought it was a superior performance to both his original recording and the later one he made ~1980 or so. Back is Good Stuff(tm) ! :) ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire!

Absolutely rocks (if "rocks" is a term you can actually use on classical music :)) Jim Crafton wrote: there is a great Glenn Gould CD I have yet to see a Gould CD in a CD shop. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. I've read a little about him, and I've heard that his performances were as close to perfection as you can get. I, however, haven't heard any Gould tunes. :( -- Only in a world this shitty could you even try to say these were innocent people and keep a straight face.

All performed on period instruments at the Smithsonian Institute. Great stuff!!! Enjoy:-D "How many times do I have to flush before you go away?" - Megan Forbes, on Management (12/5/2002)

Which reminds me - if you ever get a chance, check out Yo-Yo Ma doing Bach with Bobby McFerrin (of 'Dont Worry, Be Happy' fame). McFerrin does the violin parts with his voice. It's just absolutely amazing. I like Bach a lot but i must confess definite partiality towards Vivaldi. I'm not much for religion but if there's such a thing as a god I'm sure Vivaldi was talking to him/she/it when he wrote The Four Seasons and the L'Estro Armonico. Especially the first movement of "Winter" (Concerto No. 4 in F Minor). Gawd that one makes me fly. ___________ Klaus [vbbox.com]
