The Back Room is a very common phrase, used in this country a great deal during prohibition as the name for the speakeasy section of a seemingly respectable restaurant. When I proposed the name, back in the days when Chris shut down the original Soapbox, and trying to provide a replacement that wasn't even acknowledged on any of the menus (you had to know the URL or you couldn't get there), I'd never heard of a "dark room." Indeed, never until today had I heard that term, but I don't spend much time reading Novell product guides. ;)
