Is it just me or has anyone noticed that in the last 10 years almost every other day some guy is killing his wife, children and himself...I was out of the country from 98 to 2004 but when I came home holy S**T. What the hell happened here?!?!?! Its like all the time now. Any theories welcome. Is it all due to the economy? Anyone want to bring up cia mind control ? This topic isn't funny but those of you who are thinking of migrating here think again ! It is bad ... Theories please .. Puzzeled ....

Are you actually sure it's worse now, or is it just the media is reporting on it more now? Anybody have any actual statistics? (I know there are actually a number of cities where violent crime has gone down -- at least per the Chief of Police / Mayor / whoever is up for re-election. Generally violent crime rate is up when he's negotiating budgets with the city council, and down when he's running for re-election.) If you turn of the internet, the television and quit reading the paper, you won't hear about anything like this for years at a time.

Are you actually sure it's worse now, or is it just the media is reporting on it more now? Anybody have any actual statistics? (I know there are actually a number of cities where violent crime has gone down -- at least per the Chief of Police / Mayor / whoever is up for re-election. Generally violent crime rate is up when he's negotiating budgets with the city council, and down when he's running for re-election.) If you turn of the internet, the television and quit reading the paper, you won't hear about anything like this for years at a time.

Yeah I've thought about it. And I concluded it's generated by the media who these days are almost solely motivated to write headlines that will get you to click through to their site. Eyeballs = $$ I mean, do you personally know anyone that knows anyone that this sort of thing happend to?

Yeah one guy I went to high school with killed his mother and killed himself. Pretty crazy stuff. I didn't hear about it until I was back in the states. I didn't know the guy but I knew of him. I know the media gets out of hand with this stuff too. It just seems to be happening so often now it kind of freaks me out thats all. I was wondering if anyone knew what the heck was going on or why this is suddenly happening at the frequency it is .. It could be that I'm just paying attention to the news more these days as well.

No, it's not getting worse, you just hear about it more often. 24 hour news means everything gets reported nation-wide now. It used to be collected throughout the day and filtered so only the interesting items made it to the 6:00 news and the next day's newspaper in your area. Now you get everything as it happens, from everywhere. They wouldn't be able to fill all that time otherwise. Social media has made that effect even more noticeable: now people can get immediate updates on message feeds pushed directly to your mobile devices. Here[^] are the crime rates for the U.S. for various violent crimes. As you can see it shows a pretty steady decrease since the 1990's. Cheers, Drew.

It's just a normal reaction to the Nanny State mentality that's become the norm here over the past 30 years or so. The concept of a risk free existence supported by a law against anything you might ever want to do, coupled with a government that promises to take care of everything for you. Leads to the perfectly logical conclusion that, if something goes wrong, it's someone else's fault. =he when the violence begins. Welcome home.

My theory is that it's because commercials are more refined and we're more exposed to them. I'll try to explain it as funny as possible, but not funnier. An effective commercial speaks to your subconscious and it has to say three things: 1) You're a loser... look at you, you loser. You know you're a pathetic fat loser 2) Look at this guy, he's not a loser like you. His life is great. Wow, look at him. 3) This product, that's his secret. If you buy it you will become just like him. Now you will buy the product and feel satisfied, until you discover you actually bought a piece of shit and now you can't afford all the other stuff you want to buy. Then you have a wife and kids who are also brainwashed to buy other stuff and keep they nagging about how they can't have what they want. Ultimately it leads to frustration, an inferiority complex, anger and suicidal depression with all the dire consequences that go along with it.

I know people that work at hospitals, the poor, even illegal immigrants get healthcare. The ER will treat anyone, and part of the problem is it gets jammed full of poor people going in for the flu, while I'm waiting for an arm x-ray. Meanwhile, they are getting served for free, at a very high cost (ER nurses, staff, doctors, facilities) while they could be treated by a nurse practitioner at Walgreens.
