development program registration procedure from hell

Does it really take that much to develop for iPhones? Glad I went with Android... I just set up Eclipse last night, installed the Android SDK and ADT, and I'm already developing... Supposedly, putting something on the Android Market is a piece of cake.
Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?
Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)its pretty simple. I have one out there . Just make sure to read Google's rules and whatnot, they have(or did have) a pretty good instruction page to go along with publishing an app.
Programming is a race between programmers trying to build bigger and better idiot proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots, so far... the universe is winning. Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

or Gingerbread, or FroYo... Yeah, well, I also tried out Android and it was easier. Not sure about putting on the app store though. Not to mention the scamware that showed up in the Android app store. I decided on the iPhone for now since I don't have the patience to deal with the fragmentation in the Android market.

Yeah, from what I've heard, it's not that hard, and Eclipse+ADT does most of the annoying stuff for you... Packaging, signing, aligning, etc.

Actually it's not that bad... It's something like one line of code to check whether a certain feature is available, and API levels look pretty easy to work with. Granted, I'm shortcutting this a little, since the first app I'm developing is really only geared for tablets, not phones.

I'm going to be helping a company work on iPhone, so they sent me an invite for their corporate Apple Development Center membership. Got in OK from the link in the invite email. Filled out the simple form with my personal information, hit continue, and got some sort of error. No indication of what the error was, just an error. It of course told me to go back to the [apparently not so] simple form, and I did just that - try again. Same stupid error (of course). I was afraid that maybe I was on the U.S. page and I'm registering with an address in Israel, but nowhere could I find any indication of country. Not to mention that the company that invited me is an Israeli company. I tried again, making some changes, still same stupid error. Then somehow, I did something that caused the system to ask me to sign in. Well, that's what I did. This time I was presented with a variation of the simple damn stupid form that failed before. After completing the form and pressing "continue", I was done. The registration process was finally successful. Only took me about an hour and half for a five minute procedure. They apparently don't invest the same effort in their web site usability as they do in their over-priced and popular devices. *sigh* I need a beer.
I use a major US chain drug store and log on to check prescriptions. However after logging in when I click check on order I need to log in a second time.

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)Now, after having been forced to downgrade to Java and Eclipse, there finally is a word of truth: Eclipse really does the most annoying stuff

Their web site does not even work in IE. And yes, every aspect of writing apps for the iPhone is a nightmare wrapped in a disaster. Wait until you start trying to provision a development device....

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)C# and VS 2010 Ultimate? :) Seriously, I often feel like I'm back in the year 1999 before .Net came along. Everything is a little bit more awkward and time consuming and Eclipse easily made it to the top on my nomination list for the category 'Most Annoying Development Tool' (number two is the Visual Studio WPF designer). Eclipse is constantly wailing about errors which don't exist while at the same time failing to show errors which do. It does not really ever know what's going on, but constantly tries to lecture me and mess around in the code unasked to 'correct' my mistakes.
