Client meeting today [Meeting over]
-
After leaving my previous job a month ago client asked me to meet him today. According to my internal sources ( Wikileaks ) they want me back. I am in a bit of dilemma now. I had a proper going away party :) . Will you go back to very job you left ? Edit : I got a good offer ( Not the same job Yey !!! ) . Cannot disclose it here . May be vultures looking around. :)

No, there is a reason you left...

It would depend on whether the reasons you left are still valid or not. Also, you could always ask if they'll have a coming back party for you. Too many parties is a good thing.

One thing about leaving is that it does clear the desk. Something that only that would accomplish. You wouldn't be coming back to the same job, no matter what. It very much depends on the job and the reason I left. Some they couldn't get me back without firing some people first. The job just wouldn't be doable. I do a lot of contract work so in theory I should be very okay with this- but the list of companies I'd go back to is not the same as the full list of companies I've worked for. And some of the good ones have had changes in management.

I have known a number of people who have left their corporate positions, only to return performing much the same job, but as a consultant. Most of them were very happy with their choice to do so. I suspect that a lot depends on the reasons you had for leaving. If it was because of personality or management difficulties, very often being a consultant insulates you from the idiots you used to have to please in order to keep your job. As a consultant, you usually report to a different level of management, and by not being a direct employee of the company you are perceived to be a lot smarter than the regular help - sad, but true.
