Subject closed[^] The American Teabaggers have gotten in the habit of comparing Obama to to Hitler and are often seen carrying signs depicting the President's face with a little mustache on his upper lip. Like Hitler, Obama is an eloquent public speaker. Clearly the ability to articulate in public equates one with the murderer of 6 million Jews and the general personification of evil. You know who else was a great public speaker? Steve Allen. Or should I say "Steve Hitler." So was that guy you saw give a great toast at a wedding. I bet you didn't realize you were listening to Hitler. :-D

Why is it called the tea party? It isnt named after the Boston Tea Party is it, where a load of traders dressed up as Indians and threw some tea bags into the St Lawrence?

I think the word you were looking for was "traitors", and the use of that word depends on who's ideology you favor. To the crown, they word "traitors", or in today's vernacular, would be called "domestic terrorists". To us, they were "rights activists", or even "patriots". Today's "Tea Party" was named after the Boston Tea Party in that they claim to be fighting to get our rights and proper representation back. To *me*, they're just a bunch of politicians (and ex-lawyers), and as such, they aren't to be trusted with *my* liberties. The only person that can reclaim *my* liberties and rights as enumerated in the Constitution, is *me*.

But, you still can't vote for em, so, um, maybe the energy is better used on local politics? Also, if you think either party in the U.S. isn't full of complete shit, then you don't quite understand politics here.

They called themselves the "Sons of Liberty" and were headed up by Paul Revere & Sam Adams - who were rather pissed that Crazy George III had occupied Boston with two regiments of British soldiers, in order to force Americans -- as they were beginning to think of themselves -- to buy tea from the East India Company, in which George owned a large share. Pete, I have never started a thread about politics here, and I never will. As far as I'm concerned the entire thread can and probably should be deleted. If I start a thread in here, it is almost always a joke. I can do all the political bashing I want to in Soapbox 1 However, I do not read the top as saying that it's OK for Brits and Aussies to indulge themselves in insults about America or American politics but we have to STFU. As Wizard pointed out, it is inhabitants of the other English-speaking countries that shoot their mouths off about America and our way of life (usually revealing an abysmal ignorance of what is actually happening over here) and start most of the threads about American politics.
