Jimmys Brain Fart
-
I was following the thread (2 down) where he was spitting the dummy about the censorship, and when I checked Jimmys profile, it was removed :wtf:
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity RAH
The rules of the Lounge are clear enough, and he should know that posts like that belong in the BackRoom. Whether he deserved to be kicked off the site is a matter for everyone to decide for themselves. Personally I think just voting to remove his messages was enough.

I agree that he needed to be smacked and unvoting to remove the message seems adequate, removing his profile is bloody ridiculious.

What the bloody hell happened there, the guy seems to have had a Sunday brain fart and his profile is removed, c'mon people trashing his message is reasonable, slapping him with a few one votes is justified but removing his profile, he has been around a long time and contributes positively to both the forums and here in the Lounge and you trash him for a single thread! I begin to despair at the, yeah it feels right, the PC attitude that is creeping into CP.

Agreed, one slip and out you're :sigh: What ever happened to CP - I know, it become more commercially driven and offensive, even slightly offensive posting on the lounge isn't approved of.

If he was removed by some people voting "troll" on the membership page, then I can't help thinking that mechanism needs some work. However, I just checked, and you do need a minimum rep level before you can see the flag - so you can't be kicked of by one idiot and a handful of sock puppets...

Metro RSSI don't have a problem with CM cleaning up the language and the rules are well known but the punishment should fit the crime and banishment is way over the top for a few naughty words.

Perhaps we need a mechanism for moving threads to the soapbox / back room, instead of a blanket "Troll/Abusive" flag?

I don't feel that the function to remove trolls is wrong, but wtf. the function needs some serious tuning. Jimmy has been around for many years and never done any trolling that I know about.

I'm pretty sure that has been suggested before already, but that doesn't make the idea any worse.

Does seem a bit harsh, didn't see what the original offending post so can't comment on what was actually said but Jimmy has been in good standing for a good while so I doubt this is justified. Perhaps it should be harder to remove a member based on some combination of reputation and age of account so long-established active members get some protection. It seems to me the law of unintended consequences was at at work in this case. You are right though, things are becoming too PC @ CP.

A Dead ringer for Kate Winslett[^]If you read further down the thread, it seems the whole message is duplicated twice - I didn't see the original either.

Yeah but me may well lose a good and productive member b/c of a single brain fart, I know I'd be so pissed off about now if I was Jimmy

Sorry if I wasn't clear: I agree 100% with everything you said in your OP and above. The comment you quoted was more an opinion that this is an unintended consequence of the much-needed troll-spankifier. Jorgen has suggested tweaking this mechanism in site bugs&sugs, I've replied to his post supporting him. I hope that Jimmy gets reinstated as (now that I know what was said) the spat wasn't ban-worth at all IMO.

May be CP needs a reinstate member flag.
