Hmm, sounds fun... Always love an RPG with a good storyline... Fallout, Oblivion, Dragon Age. Might try it out next time it goes on sale (Gotta love the sales on Steam :) )

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)I bought mine from Steam on the regular price, but considering that I haven’t bought any game from three months it’s forgivable. I found Oblivion a little hard to digest, which is strange because there were some nice things about this game. Battle system was okay, astonishing graphics for the time, the horses, the face development, the vampire thing, the coliseum, the trading system, etc. But the game just feels dull. What is the point to have these huge spaces when they are all the same with some slight reshaping? When you see one dungeon you have seen them all. Same is with the most of the objects and characters in the game. The story was so mediocre that I don’t even remember what it was about, same with the NPCs. The creatures in the dungeons were adapting their strength to your current level. Where is the fun in that? No real challenge whatsoever. Boring! I hope they have fixed these flaws in the upcoming version which will be out after a few weeks, because this is a game with a huge potential.

So I just picked up Civilization V last week, and started playing this weekend... What a horrible, evil computer game... No, it's amazing... It's that blasted "Just one more turn!" thing... Start a game at 7pm or so... Nice and relaxing... Fighting off the Aztecs and building up my technology... Next thing I know, it's 11pm as I move into the industrial age and the Greeks invite me to help exterminate the Persians... Hmm, I should really go to sleep, but... well... just a few more turns... Midnight... The war with the Persians wasn't profitable enough to continue, so I let them surrender after taking a couple of their cities... Now the Greeks are getting scared of me... Hmm... It's really late... I gotta get up at 7am... Well... Just one more turn... 1am... The Greeks are really getting annoying, and the Brits and the Americans keep asking me to help them kill the other one... So annoying to be the only one with a blue-water navy and stealth bombers, while they're rolling out cannons alongside their swordsmen... Ugh, I shouldn't be awake... Well, I'll just steamroll the Greeks and go to bed... 1:45am... The last Greek city falls... Ugh, no, they have an outpost on the other side of the world! Gah, that'll take ten turns to wipe out, and I just won by finishing the Utopia Project anyway....... But I came this far, didn't I? 2:00am... The ACTUAL last Greek city falls. Finally, I can go to bed. 7:00am... The alarm clock rings. Ughhhhhhh I need to remember not to play that game on weeknights... I need some caffeine......

I didn't like the vampire thing... It felt backwards, where you'd LOSE your vampire powers by feeding when it should be the other way around.

They just wanted it to feel huge... And it did. You could just click on the map to travel once you've explored places anyway, though I agree it was tedious at times.

The main storyline wasn't great, but I liked the subplots... Working your way through the assassins' guild was cool, and the expansions were a little more interesting... The mad king whats-his-name was fun, and I kind of liked the King Arthur-type thing where you hunted down the ghosts of dead knights.

Agreed... That bugged me... Never felt like I was getting more powerful, and that's one of the best parts of most RPGs. It wasn't as good as DA Origins, but I still spent a LOT of time in it.

Tell me about it, POH has a lot to answer for with "Stupid Zombies", don't know how many hours I have spent on that......glad I never took it offshore with me! I managed to complete the first 240 Levels of Chapter 1, (think it was 240, 4 stages 60 levels each if i recall). Carry on with Chapter 2 when I go home next time.

Computer games don't have this effect on me, or at least none has for a very long time. I recognize the feeling though. VS/CP do it to me on a regular basis.

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)Same thing happened to me when I had dragon age origins. At 9 pm to 10pm it installed. Then I started learn magic. Then got the job with a king. And I continued to play the game then I heard an alarm clock. I paused the game and check the time it was 6 am morning. Thanks to hostel life I had breakfast at 8 am then I slept until lunch.

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)Civilization II and Civilization Revolution still steals a lot of time from me. No wonder my wife frowns when I mention wanting Civ 5, heh. Lately, most of my time has been sucked away by Test Drive Unlimited 2. Despite the many remaining flaws in the game, the simple joy of driving all over Ibiza and Hawaii in an open-frame dune buggy is very addicting... Flynn

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)Same here. Oblivion obliterated a good portion of my time. When my first PS3 crashed, I had one character that had over 120 hours on the game clock. She'd finished the Assassin's and Thief's Guilds, Knights of the Nine and the main quest and halfway through the Mage's Guild and nearly finished with the Shivering Isles. Bought the PC version from Steam with the extra DLC pre-installed a few months ago and re-created the character. Unfortunately, I'm so used to using the controller that I still haven't completely adjusted to the keyboard/mouse setup yet. There are controller options for the PC version, but you can't configure the controller to work exactly the same as the PS3 version. Still, it works for the most part. Looking forward to Skyrim in November. Another great time-suck, heh. Flynn

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)I know that feeling. I already spent way too much time on Civ I, in spite of it's clunky graphics. But then the game never was about graphics. When I got bored of the original I modified the rules file (back then an ascii text file) to introduce new kinds of troops such as hot-air balloons serving as airborne scouts at an early age, land-based transporter units, or immobile defense units. Test of Time was the worst timesink of the series though, specifically the fantasy setting with three layers: Utgard, Midgard, and Asgard. The 3rd dimension added so many tactical complications, a turn took me much longer than normal to complete, just to check all the possibilities!

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)When I remember that Skyrim is coming in November... it will be month(s) of little sleep, cranky mornings and questionable code acrobatics :). And Witcher 2 struck me in May, this will be year to remember.

I usually go to bed by 3am, but my clock rings at 5:30 or 6:15; thanks to God I usually have at least 20min of sleep on train.

My Civilization addiction started in 1998. I FINALLY got over it in 2006, and I vowed not to buy Civ V. Please...don't TEMPT me! :((
The world is going to laugh at you anyway, might as well crack the 1st joke! Have you tried turning it off and on again? Have you tried forcing an unexpected reboot?

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)Heh, I remember once we were playing HOMM III with my brother (Hot-seat mode) and he almost missed his flight to France. Ah, the good old days, when I started Civ I at 10 am and reached Alpha Centauri by 9pm the same day... Nowadays though I prefer joining my daughter playing with lego whenever I have the chance. Cheers!
