iso files
-
To install the VS2008 service pack, I am going to burn the iso file to DVD drive, perform the installation, copy the installation files from DVD to USB or hard disk and then trash the DVD disc. There are workarounds like ISO Buster, Daemon Tools etc. but I am not going to use the workaround. I plan to do it exactly the way Microsoft intended this to be done. Later : [rant] I look at that piece of shiny plastic lying in the trashcan with mixed feelings. I am ashamed to be a member of a modern consumer society that throws things the trash without a valid reason. On the other hand I feel proud to be part of Microsoft's vision of environment friendliness[/rant]

Afterwards I remember I had burned a DVD of the same thing in 2009. In a fit of remorse I break open a fresh packet of A4 photocopier paper and feed it into the shredder, two sheets at a time.

Next time use an app like magiciso[^] to mount the ISO as a virtual drive instead and copy directly.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. I am aware of all the workarounds. I just refuse to use them as a mark of protest. If there is an angel measuring sin and virtue I hope he chalks up the sins to Microsoft Corp. with a hefty markup for emotional anguish i.e. forcing others into sin because of your crummy attitude.

Haven't you heard about DVD-RW disks? Instead of throwing the disc away, you can reuse it for the next service pack, Linux distro or other ISO file.
Well if he did that, he wouldn't get to enjoy the shame of wasting the DVD.
