Guys, I am having some problem using Win2k. Whenever i double click any folder to see its contents, the window not gets open for few seconds..i.e whenever i double click "My computer" or My documents" icon, nothing happens for about 20 seconds and after this period the window gets open. Internet explorer immediately appears but its client area remains invalidated for about half a minute, during this time i can't even minimize the explorer window. Any advice ????

Do you have a CD in one of the drives. I have seen exactly what you describe in both cases 1) poor quality CD that was not being read and 2) CD drive going out. I.E. both cases the display froze until the CD read timed out. "I will find a new sig someday."

Check if you have any network drives that are unreachable. I had a similar problem with a bad network drive timing out. In my case, windows explorer seems to wait for the timeout before displaying the folder contents. - Vivek

If you have an "On Demand" Anti-virus application running check to see what it is monitoring and how it is monitoring. Most AV software have Heuristic checking (i.e. checking for unknown viruses) this is very intense and can cause all sorts of slowdowns if you have it checking on both read and write. Ant.

Check that SP3 is still installed, i've seen this when some apps and updates get installed, sp3 dissapears/gets corrupted. you can check from the [my computer]- [properties dialog] box. you can try re-installing SP3 this might help

Mine has behaved like that since the last time I let Windows Update run. It also freezes completely every two days, thanks to the Update, and has to be restarted. "How many times do I have to flush before you go away?" - Megan Forbes, on Management (12/5/2002)
