Mary Blair's 100 th birth day
-
Mary Blair was an American artist who was prominent in producing art and animation for The Walt Disney Company.I love Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella of her creations. Blair also created character designs for enduring attractions such as Disneyland's It's a Small World, the fiesta scene in El Rio del Tiempo in the Mexico pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase, and an enormous mosaic inside Disney's Contemporary Resort.

Sadly over here in the UK, kids today are being taught how to pass exams only, rather than being educated and being exposed to the wonders around us. I studied pure sciences for my A-Levels, but I had general studies to ensure I learnt about Art, History etc.. As a result the general level of knowledge is poor - the number of people who read as a past time has dropped dramatically - the number of people using their local libraries is at an all time low.

FTFY
Oxfords English < Official CCC Players Dictionary Excuse me for my improper grammar and typos. It's because English is my primary language, not my first language. My first languages are C# and Java. VB, ASP, JS, PHP and SQL are my second language. Indonesian came as my third language. My fourth language? I'm still creating it, I'll let you know when it's done! :-D

Considering she died in 1978, it isn't her 100th birthday at all, but the 100th anniversary of her birth. Get it right, Google.

Thank you. I have been thinking a lot about about something totally unrelated, but with very similar symptoms. Up to now I simply could not understand how any random group of people could be so collectively dumb, but with what you say here their strange behavior at least makes some sense. Unfortunately this will not help resolve the problem.
And from the clouds a mighty voice spoke:
"Smile and be happy, for it could come worse!"And I smiled and was happy
And it came worse. -

This is a piece of semantics that is better off dead, in my opinion. It's the anniversary of the day of her birth, i.e. birth day, i.e. just the same thing as a 'birthday' of a live person. People who have children, friends etc who die young often mark their 'birthdays' anyway.

I disagree.

I can't find any definition of birthday that doesn't include something along the lines of 'the anniversary of a birth'. And the origin of the word seems to be from the Old English byrddg which meant "anniversary celebration of someone's birth", and was originally used just for kings or saints, who would have, more often than not, been dead at the time. Certainly in the case of the saints. I think the rule that only the living can have a birthday is a recent invention to allow the smug to feel superior to the stupid who don't know how to use words properly.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

If the person cannot attend the celebrations in person by virtue of being dead, then it is not their birthday, merely the anniversary of their birth. Byrddg has the definition "birthday" in the dictionary I found. "Happy birthday" in Old English is apparently "Ēadiġ ġebyrddæġ".
